Clinton Pettee was an American artist born in 1872. He was a highly collectible cover and story illustrator for pulp magazines and was best known for his illustration on the cover of the October 1912 issue of The All-Story magazine featuring the world's first published image of Tarzan. That cover is considered by collectors as the most valuable of all pulp magazines, with a copy selling recently for almost $60,000.
