Angels Over LA - the Falling Heart
By Dolores Guerrero-Cruz
Located in Palm Springs, CA
Signed and numbered screenprint from the edition of 64. Angels Over L.A. is a vibrant, expressive print by Dolores Guerrero-Cruz, a painter, graphic artist, and muralist whose work is deeply rooted in the visual and cultural landscape of Los Angeles. Born in Colorado and raised in East Los Angeles, Guerrero-Cruz draws on Chicano identity, urban experience, and spiritual symbolism to create imagery that is both personal and communal. In this composition, sweeping bands of deep blue and white move rhythmically across the surface, intersected by jagged, luminous lines of gold that suggest pathways, fault lines, or spiritual currents. The dynamic abstraction evokes motion and energy—at once celestial and urban—suggesting guardian forms or unseen forces hovering over the city below. The bold palette and gestural brushwork reflect Guerrero-Cruz’s background in muralism, where scale, color, and immediacy are essential. Angels Over L.A. exemplifies the artist’s ability to merge abstraction with cultural narrative, offering a work that resonates as both a visual meditation and a tribute to the layered spirit of Los Angeles.
