Edmond Morin Art

French, 1824-1882

An influential 19th-century French etcher, lithographer, wood engraver and illustrator, Edmond Morin studied art in Paris in the studio of Gleyre. Shortly after completing his education Morin left Paris for London and remained in that city for eight years (1849–1857). During his London years, Morin achieved a large reputation for both his illustrations and wood engravings in such major publications as The Illustrated London News and Pen and Pencil. Morin returned to Paris in 1857 and immediately began exhibiting his art at the Salon. During the following years, he frequently contributed art to such journals as Magasin pittoresque, l'Illustration, le Monde illustré and La Vie parisienne. He also illustrated books such as L'Hotel des Haricots (1864), Paris-guide and Monsieur (1867), Madame et bebe (1878). Although a fine landscape and portrait artist, he became most famous for his scenes of everyday life. In this area, his splendid ability to capture a moment in time has led some scholars to link him with his Impressionist contemporaries. Pays quand Meme (Home all the Same) is a superb example of Morin's art.

Untitled (Woman Resting)
By Edmund Daniel Kinzinger
Located in Dallas, TX
Edmund D. Kinzinger was born in 1888, in Pforzhein, Germany. In Munich he studied at the Kirr Schule and the Staatliche Akademie, and pursued graduate studies at the Academie Modern, Paris. Before serving in the German Army, Kinzinger was a master student of Adolph Holzel at the Staatcliche Akademie, Stuttgart; he returned to study under Henrich Waldschmidt after nearly five years of artillery service. Several of Kinzinger’s fellow students in Germany, such as Johannes Itten, would go on to be associated with the Bauhaus school. Coming into contact with all manner of artistic influences in Europe after World War One, Kinzinger’s work may be viewed as a “synthesis” of modernist styles. The influences of Abstract Expressionist, Cubist, and Futurist styles in Kinzinger’s work at this time are symptomatic of his contact with the likes of Hans Hofmann, Pablo Picasso, and Alexander Archipenko. Philip Van Keuren...

Une Averse sur le Boulevard Des Italiens
By Edmond Morin
Located in Saint Augustine, FL
An original etching on watermarked laid paper by French artist Edmond Morin (1824-1882) titled "Une Averse sur le Boulevard des Italiens", 1876. Issued unsigned, though signed in the plate lower right. Printed by Delâtre and published by Gazette des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France, 1876. Watermark upper left of sheet. Reference: Sanchez & Seydoux 1876-30. Sheet size: 11" x 7". Image size: 8" x 5.25". Light toning to sheet associated with age. In very good condition. This etching was published by Gazette des Beaux-Arts. The Gazette des Beaux-Arts was a French art review, found in 1859 by Édouard Houssaye, with Charles Blanc as its first chief editor. Assia Visson Rubinstein was chief editor under the direction of George Wildenstein from 1928 until 1960. Her papers, which include all editions of the Gazette from this period, are intact at the Cantonal and University Library of Lausanne in Dorigny. The Gazette was a world reference work on art history for nearly 100 years - one other editor in chief, from 1955 to 1987, was Jean Adhémar. It was bought in 1928 by the Wildenstein family, whose last representative was Daniel Wildenstein, its director from 1963 until his death in 2001. The review closed in 2002. An influential nineteenth century French etcher, lithographer, wood engraver and illustrator, Edmond Morin studied art in Paris in the studio of Gleyre.
