Edward Butler Paintings
b. 1948
Edward A. Butler (b. 1948, Philadelphia, PA) completed his BFA at the Philadelphia College of Art. A passionate painter from a young age, Butler's subject matter varies from landscapes to animal portraits to still life. The constant in his work is the drama of light and shadow, along with a strong affinity for simplicity and beauty. Butler strives to convey a contemporary point of view while utilizing the techniques of the old masters. In the artist's words: "Painting for me is a process of selection and dismissal. I endeavor to accept nothing that fails to please the eye. Within that framework, I can be quite literal or work from a mix of educated observation and fantasy. When I am successful, the result, the finished painting, should seem inevitable."
His work is represented in numerous private collections.to

Horse No 1, 2002 / oil on canvas
By John Goodman
Located in Burlingame, CA
Running horse in a forceful, bold, abstract expressionistic style in pale hues of pink, blue, and brown and cream on Belgin linen. Goodman's oil paintings are a dichotomy of understated minimalism with reductive use of color that conveys a subtle, but evident smoldering energy. The artist uses heavy paint that he sculpts and draws into, as he forms a rich tactile field of painterly surfaces. Clearly, Bay Area influences are present in his work, particularly that of Nathan Oliveira, who Goodman was privileged to have had as his mentor. John Goodman's sophisticated and understated paintings, drawings and sculptures are exhibited coast to coast, have premiered at International Art Fairs, and are collected worldwide. A strong and exciting, magnetic work of art. Contemporary, 21st century, yet inspired and influenced by mid century, modern American painters...
