Dimensions incl. frame: approx. 50 x 45,5 cm. Depcited is a boy busy fleaing a dog. The boy sits on a chair with the dog on his lap. On a table on the right there is a book and a pen. On a wooden bench lies the boy's hat. What is unique about this painting by Ter Borch, is the relationship that is depicted between human and animal. Mostly animals like dogs where depicted as an attribute in paintings in the 17th century, and sometimes used to symbolize certain character traits. This boy is lovingly caring for his dog, which he is giving his full attention. Another interesting detail is that Ter Borch's brother Moses, was probably the model for this painting. Ter borch often used family members as models for his paintings. Moses was also a very talented painter and draughtsman. Several copies of this work by Ter Borch are known. One of these copies is in the collection of the Dutch Rijksmuseum (Image included in the image gallery (last image)). This artworl "Landscape" c. 1935 is an oil painting on hardboard by renown California artist Frank Joseph Girardin, 1856-1945. It is signed at the lower right corner. The hardboard size is 20 x 30 inches, framed size is 30.5 x 40.5 inches. Framed in a wooden beige frame, with fabric liner. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: Born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1856, Frank joseph Girardin began his art instruction in 1870 under Frank Noble and later Frank Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy. A semi-pro baseball player in Cincinnati, he was best known for his beautiful landscapes of both Indiana and California. An extremely active participant in the development of the Art Association of Richmond and original member of the local Sketch Club, he served on the Board of Directors of Art Association for several years. He was considered ranked next to the late John E. Bundy in talent and skill by the former Art Association Director, Mrs. Ella Bond Johnston. It was during his time in Indiana, that he received the most recognition for his work. In 1903, he won first prize for his painting, "Lingering Snow" at the Cincinnati Art Club Show. About the artist: After growing up on the banks of the Dordogne , in 1975 he became a theater actor and musician in a group formed in Clermont-Ferrand . In the early 1980s , he moved to Marseille where he began his career as a painter, after observing a watercolor artist on the Place aux Huiles . Self-taught, he paints in his cellar, drawing inspiration from the painters Nicolas de Staël and William Turner . He sells his first watercolors on the quays of the Old Port of Marseille, and Cassis . He then moved to Paris, where he continued painting. Patrick Reault exhibits in Asia, the United States and France. The first of his lithographs was published in 1994 by Art Cadre Paris. The Hazan publish posters of his Provençal landscapes.
