Erekle Chinchilakashvili Art
Georgian, b. 1992
Through his paintings, Georgian artist, Erekle Chinchilakashvili, attempts to research the constant flux and fragility of the human condition. Using expressive combinations of palettes and textures, Chinchilakashvili explores his own identity and self's relation to historical or fictional narratives.
Erekle's paintings are primarily based on his drawings, often loose interpretations of his Black & White photographs. Erekle's artworks incorporate vinylic emulsion, charcoal, and oil paints. "In my art, ideally, I want to initiate poetic dialogue between the present, or my current understanding of it, and the past. This is what is shaping me as a human being. I'm trying to research these non-tangible processes," says the artist.
Apart from painting, Chinchilakashvili works in collage, installation, and other experimental mediums. His key influences come from various eclectic sources. He is an admirer of Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, Marlene Dumas, and Georgian wall paintings.to

André Elbaz (born April 26, 1934, El Jadida, Morocco) is a famous Moroccan painter and filmmaker.
Elbaz studied art and theatre in Rabat and Paris from 1950 to 1961. He started painting only at the age of 21, until which age he had been interested mainly in theatre. A few years later, he managed to combine his two passions into a new approach in art-therapy, inventing together with his wife, a psychiatrist, the Pictodrame, which brought him world recognition.
His first exhibition, which was very successful, took place in Casablanca in 1961 and earned him an appointment as Professor at the Beaux-Arts school in Casablanca. Years later, in 1976, he exhibited his paintings at the Tel-Aviv Museum.
In parallel to his career as a painter, Elbaz is also known as a filmmaker. He produced several short films in France, Canada and the United States. One of them, La nuit n'est jamais complète (The night is never complete), won a prize at the "5th Biennale de Paris in 1967" .[citation needed] Among the themes chosen for the many films he produced, there was a short one about the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, as well as a series of drawings entitled Seuls (Alone), with texts written by both Elie Wiesel...

'Abstract Landscape', California WPA, Corcoran, Whitney, AIC, GGIE, SFAA, LACMA
By Ellwood Graham
Located in Santa Cruz, CA
Signed upper right, 'Graham' for Ellwood Graham (American, 1911-2007) and painted circa 1985; additionally signed, verso, and titled, 'View Study'.
This early California Modernist was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and attended the School of Fine Arts at Washington University. By the 1930's, Graham was living in California and working in the Federal Art Project as assistant to Gordon Grant. In this capacity, he designed and painted numerous murals in Federal and state buildings including the U.S. Post Office in Ventura. In 1937, he moved to Monterey and the home studio he built there was where he carried out various commissions, including for Senatorial offices in Washington DC and for John Steinbeck, a close personal friend, whose portrait he painted while the author was writing 'Sea of Cortez' (1940).
Graham served in the Navy during World War II and, afterwards, traveled between Monterey, the Caribbean (1952-1953), New Mexico, and Mexico (1954-1955) before becoming a resident of Pebble Beach in 1956. In 2000, he moved and spent his final years in Oregon. Graham exhibited widely and with success including at the Golden Gate International Exposition (1939), Art Institute of Chicago (1947), Corcoran Gallery (1947), Whitney Museum of Art (1951), San Francisco Art Association, Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art and the Carmel Art Association. Honored with 68 awards, Graham has received national and international acclaim as an abstract painter and colorist. His work can be found in numerous public collections including the Whitney Museum in New York City, the Art Institute of Chicago, the New Mexico Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum, the Santa Barbara Museum, the de Young Museum in San Francisco, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the San Francisco Art Museum, the Oakland Museum, and the Brazilian Embassy in Washington.
Concerning his work, Graham said:
"I am a creative painter, the grist for the mill can come from anything at all - a love affair, a book, a poem, a conversation, anything. I like profound painting, although I'm not always capable of doing it, I want a painting to breathe; I like to orchestrate color, playing with the various tones to create an amalgam of color."

"My primary sources came from various public domain archives or other collections. I spend a lot of time searching through pictures about events that somehow spark interest in my consciousness. I am fascinated by the concept of the archive itself. It seems that archives are the raw material for creating historical narratives, non-linear sources, which are scattered around with no particular order.
Every morning once I start the day, I start intaking visual information from my cell phone and laptop, then I go out to the street. Images, images, images, an endless number of images every day. And I don't really get to choose the alternative of not seeing. There is no choice like that. So we experience a loss of meaning. When transmitted to painting, the parts of initial photos transform themselves into a new existence. So it is an act of transformation, an act of change and motion."-- Erekle Chinchilakashvili...
