What a beauty! This Evans silver tone wristlet handbag with a rhinestone embellished mother-of-pearl inlaid top has two gold tone compartments for everything from a powder compact to a coin carrier. The Evans Co. can trace it's roots back to early American button makers and in the early 1900's wisely saw an opportunity to branch out into compact vanity cases. Over the years, the cases became more than utilitarian which eventually led to compacts which could also perform double duty as evening bags. This beauty pops open on one side to reveal a mirror, powder compartment, a comb with sleeve, a spring loaded coin carrier, sleeve for lipstick and an open compartment possibly for cash. The second compartment was probably used for cigarettes with a hinged bar to keep everything in place. The handbag measures 3.25" x 5.5" x 1" with a 10.5" chain handle which allows for a 4.75" drop. This Evans piece is made with beautiful details and the quality of high end costume jewelry. The color variations in the mother-of-pearl inlay is particularly eye catching with shades of brown, pink, taupe and minty green.
