An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver presentation bowl; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection.
This exceptional antique Victorian English sterling silver presentation bowl has a circular panelled form onto a plain circular domed spreading foot.
The panels of this impressive bowl are embellished with embossed and chased decorated floral sprays alternating with wildlife scenes depicting snakes, squirrels and birds, in addition to chinoiserie style figural ornamentation.
Each illustrative panel incorporates a floral design to the lower portion; one remains vacant to the upper portion forming a vacant cartouche.
The upper segment of each panel is ornamented with an alternating panel of chased geometric quatrefoil and twisting decoration.
The upper rim of this impressive Monteith style bowl has a plain incurved border.
The bowl is supported with a plain circular domed foot encircled with applied moulded decoration to the rim.
The underside of the bowl bears the retailer's mark 'Thomas, 153 New Bond St', in addition to the full hallmarks.
This exceptional example of antique silverware has been crafted by the same maker and in the same style as the bowl A4964, and they would sit very well together as a graduating pair.
