Kees Van Dongen Circus Performers 1900s Vintage Vibrant Figure Fauvist Signed
By Kees van Dongen
Located in Milwaukee, WI
"Les Artistes du Cirque" is an original painting in ink, watercolor, and gouache on paper by leading Fauvist artist Kees Van Dongen, signed in the lower right. In the piece, two circus performers stand against against a wall. On the left, a pale woman in a blue leotard with red flowers on the shoulder stands with her arms crossed, looking out at the viewer. The painter fills in her tights with delicate white brushstrokes, lending them an almost iridescent appearance. Her strawberry blond hair is piled on top of her hair according to the fashion of the period. On the right, an African man stands in a vivid orange toga, looking somewhere off to the left. His feet are clad in bright white shoes...

San Francisco Abstract Expression
A free-spirited wave of creative energy swept through the San Francisco art community after World War II. Challenging accepted modes of painting, Abstract Expressionists produced highly experimental works that jolted the public out of its postwar complacency.
Abstract Expressionism resulted from a broad collective impulse rather than the inspiration of a small band of New York artists. Documenting the interchanges between the East and West Coasts, she cites areas of mutual influence and shows the impact of San Francisco on the New York School, including artists such as Mark Rothko and Ad Reinhardt. 'Venus in Furs', American Pin-Up Illustration, Nude, Leopold von Sacher-Masoch
By Fritz Willis
Located in Santa Cruz, CA
Signed lower left, 'Fritz Willis' (American, 1907-1979) and painted circa 1960.
A delicately modeled example of the work of this notable American illustrator showing a suitably sultry 'sex-kitten', wearing a fur stole, silk stockings and a 'come-hither' expression, with a white-gloved forefinger pointing provocatively to her lower lip and her pinkie extended.
Although Fritz Willis published his first pinup as early as 1946, his iconography is more representative of the end of the era of pinups. His models often have more of an introspective maturity; more wanton and confident than Elvgren or Petty's coy and girlish pinups with their toothy grins. He created numerous advertisements for national, front-line products including Pepsi, Max Factor and Sunkist. Willis also illustrated stories for Esquire and the Saturday Evening Post and created covers for all Ice Follies...

Calendar Art for Herald's Casino - Reno, Nevada
A large, sultry original published pin-up calendar painting by the prolific and important American artist Fritz Willis. Willis was the last true star pin-up artist of the old guard, when illustrative pin-up reigned supreme in Men's magazines and advertising calendars. The artist worked during the very tail end of the genre's popularity. Showcasing a near-nude sex...
