Artist Biography
Gabriel Casarrubios Martín was born in Toledo, Spain, in 1953. He began his higher artistic studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid in 1974 and graduated in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1979.
During his formative years, he participated in various painting, sculpture and engraving workshops, broadening his artistic interests and technical knowledge. He also spent time in Paris studying French Impressionism, an experience that contributed to his lifelong fascination with light, color and spontaneous painterly expression.
Following his studies, Casarrubios settled in the Valle del Tiétar region, near the Gredos Mountains in Ávila, Spain. The extraordinary natural landscape of this area, with its mountains, valleys, rivers and warm atmospheric light, became an important source of inspiration for his artistic development.
His work encompasses two distinctive yet complementary artistic directions: colorful Impressionist and Expressionist landscapes executed primarily in oil, and contemporary geometric compositions exploring simplified forms, symbolism and spatial relationships.
Casarrubios acknowledges the influence of important Spanish painters, including Joaquín Sorolla, Ignacio Pinazo, Hermenegildo Anglada-Camarasa and Joaquín Agrasot. Their sensitivity to Mediterranean light, expressive color and naturalistic subjects is reflected in his distinctive approach to painting.
Since 1991, he has been associated with the Canati Group, an artistic collective dedicated particularly to landscape painting.
His exhibition career includes presentations at the Parque del Retiro in Madrid, the Centro de Arte Julián Simón in Toledo, Galería Altea in Madrid and international exhibitions in the United States.
Notably, his work was exhibited at the John David Mooney Foundation in Chicago in 2000 and Galería Gaudí in Chicago in 2001, demonstrating his international artistic presence.
His paintings are represented in private and institutional collections in Spain and abroad, including Europe, the United States, Argentina and China.
Today, Gabriel Casarrubios Martín is recognized for his expressive brushwork, rich textures and colorful interpretations of the Spanish landscape and Mediterranean artistic tradition.
