A magnificent, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver straight Devonshire pattern flatware service for twelve persons made by George Adams; an addition to our canteen of cutlery collection. The pieces of this magnificent, antique Victorian sterling silver straight* flatware service for twelve persons have been crafted in the King's shape Devonshire pattern. The anterior and posterior surfaces of each handle are enveloped with scrolling leaf ornamentation. The decoration to each handle terminal incorporates a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a lion's gamb surmounted with a hawk. The heel and shoulders of each piece are embellished with further scrolling leaf decoration. This silver cutlery service for 12 persons consists of 88 pieces: Basic service: 12 table knives. 12 table forks. 12 table spoons. 12 dessert knives. 12 dessert forks. 12 dessert spoons. 12 teaspoons. Additional pieces: Pair of serving spoons. Pair of sauce ladles. The fundamental pieces of this service have been crafted by the collectable, renowned silversmith and flatware maker George Adams of Chawner & Co in 1850, apart from the table and dessert knives, which are replacements. These straight antique Victorian services are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. These impressive examples of antique silverware are supplied in felt cutlery rolls; which not only protect the items in storage but significantly reduces tarnishing. "Straight" means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year. Predominately all antique silver canteens...
