Georges Dussau Prints and Multiples

French, b. 1947
Painter and engraver Georges Dussau was born in 1947 in Chalon sur Saône. He now divides his time and work between Mellecey (Saône-et-Loire) and Mougins (Alpes-Maritimes). Georges Dussau studied art at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris. He began his career as a painter in 1969, and had his first solo exhibition at the Chalon-sur-Saône town hall gallery in 1971. The young man dreamed of being an artist, and this dream came true in the early 70s when he went to Paris to present his work, and was quickly spotted for his talent and style. It was with publisher and gallery owner Jacqueline de Champvallins that he earned his letters of nobility. For over 50 years now, an artist of abstract expression, he has concentrated on the techniques of oil painting, silk-screening, engraving and mixed media. His works are characterized by a range of vibrant colors and an expressive use of color and form.Georges Dussau combines fluid lines and fragmented geometric forms. In his long career, the artist has exhibited his work in over a hundred shows worldwide. His work has been exhibited in many cities, including Paris, Tokyo, New York and Hong Kong. He has also participated regularly in international contemporary art fairs (Düsseldorf, Frankfurt ....). His works are included in the permanent collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York.A tireless worker and perpetual creator, Georges Dussau transports us into a poetic universe all his own. "I've spent my life having fun in my studio with serious work," he writes. In the field of engraving alone, he has produced some 680 original works in just over 50 years! A prolific and multifaceted artist, he wrote: "The greatest joy is to make a living from your passion."

JOAN MIRÓ (1893–1983) – “L’OISEAU DU FORGERON” Etching and Aquatint in Colors with Debossing on Arches Paper ⚜ Hand Signed and Numbered ⚜ Custom Conservation Frame A POETIC DIALOGUE BETWEEN INDUSTRIAL MATTER AND THE LIFE OF THE BIRD “L’Oiseau du Forgeron”, or “The Blacksmith’s Bird,” is a 1963 etching and aquatint with debossing by Joan Miró, hand signed in pencil lower right and numbered 48 from the limited edition of 75. The work belongs to Miró’s celebrated Forgeron series, in which the artist used aggressive plate biting and physical debossing of the paper to summon the world of the blacksmith’s forge directly onto the printed sheet. Printed in colors on heavy Arches wove paper with the watermark present, the impression was published by Maeght Éditeur, Paris, the central printmaking publisher of Miró’s mature career, and is documented in Jacques Dupin’s Miró Engraver, Vol. II: 1961–1973 (Daniel Lelong Éditeur, Paris, 1989) as plate 363. The composition is built around a bold visual pairing. At its center sits a heavy gray geometric form, rendered through the combined effect of etching, aquatint, and debossing, the latter pressing the contours of the deeply etched plate physically into the paper to create a tactile, sculptural relief that mimics forged industrial iron. The form is perforated with a constellation of small circles that read as rivet holes and is edged with the irregular notches of a blacksmith’s tool...
