Gin Stone Art

American, b. 1971
From 1989 until 2010, Gin Stone worked solely as a painter- this background gave her a strong knowledge of color and form. Over a decade ago, she began experimenting with textile, particularly reclaimed fishing gear and line. From trial and error with different types of gear, she found that longline, used to commercially fish haddock and cod local to her studio, could be hand-dyed and manipulated into a strong color pallet with a uniform gauge. She create three dimensional work by cutting and re-piecing material to make the animal’s ‘pelt’s. Other details are hand carved from shell, stone, wood and metal. In 2018, she was invited by the Provincetown Art Association and Museum to conduct a course at the Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed Museum School on exploring new processes and creating a cohesive body work. Stone is a PAAM member with her work in their permanent collection alongside such notables as Robert Motherwell, Hans Hoffman and Edward Hopper. Stone has delivered talks at the Chandler Gallery, Cambridge, MA; the Fountain Street Gallery, Boston; and the Cambridge Art Association, Cambridge. In collaboration with Fountain Street, Chandler and Kathryn Schultz galleries, she has curated several shows in the Boston and Cambridge area. Her work has been included in exhibitions by such notable curators as Randi Hopkins, Director of Visual Arts Boston Center for the Arts; Paul Ha, Director of the MIT List Visual Arts Center; and Sam Tager, Independent Curator and Exhibition Designer. Gin has been awarded grants from the Rauschenberg Foundation, the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation. Born in New York in 1971, Stone currently lives and works in eastern coastal Massachusetts.

Hybrid 14 - Abstract Flora Bronze Wall Sculpture
By Jennyfer Stratman
Located in Los Angeles, CA
There is a metaphorical interplay between the natural imagery international artist, Jennyfer Stratman, uses and its multiple meanings. While the human figure features strongly, it is the essence of the body that is important to her, not the representation. Particularly, the artist imagines trees and branches as a figurative link between the natural environment and our physical presence. The implied internal landscape of the body can also be reflected in how our surroundings from birth affect our sense of identity. By exploring landscapes of the body and mind, she also hopes to comment on the larger picture of our impact on the natural world. This exquisite bronze and enamel sculpture is meant to be installed as a wall hanging that sits 2 inches away from the wall. As displayed, this sculpture measures 8.5 inches high and 17.5 inches wide. It is signed by Stratman on the front and back. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and International shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Stratman grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1992 she commenced her studies at Arizona State University majoring in visual arts and art education. Stratman entered academia as a ceramicist. With each passing semester, the scale of her creations expanded and the material limitations of working with clay ultimately led her to the university foundry. This opened a door into another world of creative possibilities, profoundly changing her artistic direction. She replaced fired clay with larger-scale bronze, steel, and mixed media sculptures yet retained a delicacy, intimacy, and intricacy imbued from the ceramic process. Today she is a full-time established artist with studios operating in Phoenix, Arizona and Melbourne, Australia. Her time is divided between the two countries with each location informing and influencing the creative process. She has exhibited in 31 solo exhibitions and over 100 group exhibitions nationally and internationally. Her indoor and outdoor sculptures are held in public and private collections in countries including the United States, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Israel, England, and Europe. 18th Century New England Cartographer's Office - Kupjack Studios Miniature Room
By Henry "Hank" Kupjack
Located in Chicago, IL
Cartography, the study and practice of making and using maps, was at the cutting edge in the 18th-century, helping to shape and define a world rapidly coming into focus. Over the course of the century, exploration and colonization expanded the scope of the known world, especially in the Pacific and the Americas. Advances in geography enabled cartographers to map these new discoveries with increasing accuracy. The days of conjecture and myth in cartography were fast coming to an end. Here, the Kupjack Studios has captured this discipline with exacting details. From the smallest of tools, to the rolls of maps and maps in progress displayed on the desk, the world of miniatures comes to life and brings us into a bygone era. Kupjack Miniatures 18th Century New England Cartographer, circa. 2008 mixed media 14h x 26.25w x 14.75d in 35.56h x 66.67w x 37.47d cm KJK001 Eugene Kupjack and his sons Hank and Jay created museum quality miniature rooms in their studio outside of Chicago for many years. Hank and Jay learned the at their father’s side as he assisted Mrs. Narcissa Niblack Thorne with the creation her many miniature rooms now housed at The Art Institute of Chicago. Almost every piece of molding, furniture, rugs, and accessory items that are contained in their rooms are designed and created by hand. In addition to designing and building rooms they would sometimes work to restore the rooms built many years ago by their father and Mrs. Thorne. Their work can be seen in various museums as far away as Turkey where they were exhibited in 2009. In the United States their work can be seen in the permanent collections of The Kentucky Museum Center, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Philadelphia Art Museum...

'I am a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on ecofeminism using fiber and mixed media constructions. My materials include hand-dyed commercially fished line and ghost gear, recycled and antique textiles, fabric printed with cyanotype emulsions and found objects. I change the existing surface of recognizable animals by creating a veneer of unexpected color and imagery. This forces the viewer to consider the shape more carefully by visually exploring its new topography. The creation process can be likened to painting with fiber (that has been tinted with hand-mixed dyes) on a three-dimensional canvas. Intense work is spent creating the eyes and ears to convey the emotion of each animal. I look to the work of Joan Mitchell and The Quilters of Gee’s Bend as inspiration for pattern and color, as well as charts, iconography, and satellite imaging.' -Gin Stone...
