Guy Arnoux Art

French, 1886-1951
Guy Arnous (1890 - 1951) achieved a measure of success with stencil-colored zinc plate prints and decorative style paintings on historical themes or serial concepts, such as "Seven Capital Sins" and "Four Elements," and was an accomplished book illustrator as well. However, he was at his best with a light touch: long a prominent member of the Salon des Humoristes, he also helped organize their annual feats. A French artist, illustrator, and graphic designer. He illustrated nearly 80 books, including several outstanding large-format prints for the printer Devembez. His poster Les Vins de Bourgogne, for a wine merchant, reflects both his preoccupation with historic motifs and his humorous approach to lithography.

He studied with George Bellows and Randall Davey. Armin was an integral part of Chicago’s 57th Street Art Colony and exhibited in both the more avant-garde Chicago No-Jury Society Shows, as well as the more formal and conventional Chicago Society of Artists Exhibitions, the Chicago Renaissance Society and Art Institute of Chicago (1922-1949) exhibitions.
