Haroshi Prints and Multiples

Japanese, b. 1978
Haroshi is best known for making sculptures from recycled wooden skateboard decks. The self-taught artist blends craftsmanship and pop culture as he stacks and glues together carefully selected decks, then hand-cuts, carves, paints, and polishes them to a smooth finish. Because of the layering involved, the finished sculptures—which take the shape of animals, body parts, skulls, teddy bears, and cartoonish figures—have striped exteriors. Intricate and precise, they can evoke inami, a Japanese wood-carving tradition, and the sleek forms of Jeff Koons. Haroshi has also transformed skateboards into large-scale collages and installations and produced sculptures in bronze, vinyl, and iron. Haroshi’s work has been exhibited in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Tokyo, Osaka, and London, and he has collaborated with a number of brands, including Nike, BE@RBRICK, and Sacai.

Artist Biography - Kevans’ paintings reflect her interests in power, manipulation and the role of the individual in inherited belief systems. She looks at alternative histories and how they relate to current issues and creates what she describes as ‘anti-portraits’ that may or may not be based on real documentation. She believes that, as her work is concept driven, sometimes the actual similarity to the person depicted in the work is irrelevant. This can be seen in her 'Boys' series which is not about portraying dictators as they really looked as children but rather about the notion of the ‘innocent child’ which has influenced images of children in art...

After Sir Joshua Reynolds, 18th Century Mezzotint Portrait of John Hely-Hutchins
Located in London, GB
A scarce mezzotint engraved by James Watson published in May,1778. Proof before title; the image has maintained is rich dark tonality. John Hely-Hutchinson (1724-1794) was a politician, lawyer and Provost of Trinity College, Dublin. Born in Gortroe, County Cork in 1724, he graduated from Trinity College in 1744, and swiftly built up a good practice at the Bar. From 1760 until his death he represented Cork in Parliament. Promotion to the post of Prime Serjeant followed in 1761 and on most issues he supported the Government, and acquired several lucrative offices. His appointment as Provost of Trinity as a married layman who had not been a Fellow was a continued source of friction as the Fellows resented the imposition of what they perceived as a career politician with no pretensions to scholarship. He was sympathetic to Catholic Emancipation...
