Exceptional WPA (Works Project Administration) original oil painting by the well known American artist, Hazel Finck. Signed lower right. Condition is very good; unlined canvas. This painting was exhibited in the Manchester, New Hampshire WPA traveling art show in 1940. (See label verso). Painted in 1939. The painting retains its original Newcomb Macklin gold leaf over carved wood frame. Overall framed measurements are 32.5 by 37.5 inches. Born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1894, Hazel Finck studied art with Guy Wiggins and Sigismund Ivanowski, a Russian born artist living in Mountainside, New Jersey. She lived most of her life in Westfield, New Jersey, and became active in art activities, exhibiting at the Newark Art Club, the New Jersey Gallery of Art and the Westfield Art Association.
During part of her career, she taught at the State Teachers College in DeKalb, Illinois, where work is in the art collection. A member of the National Association of Women Artists, she exhibited regularly with that organization until 1951. She died n...
