Heinrich (Henry) August Schwabe's 'In The Studio', oil on stretched canvas. Circa 1880-1910. The canvas dimensions are 11.13" wide x 16" high. The lovely theme of a sumptuously dressed lady reading a newspaper in a rocking chair in the artist's studio. The background possibly features a painting of a little girl and a portrait bust. The little girl in a dress and the portrait bust are expressionless. Signed, inscribed and titled on the reverse in graphite, H. August Schwabe, In the Studio. I am still working on deciphering the rest of the writing. It is very faint.
The gilded and gesso frame is 'as is and as found' condition. Heavy losses of the outer gesso molding. The painting is in original condition with no visible restorations or repairs. It has been put under a back light. No visible rips, tears, punctures or heavy crazing to the glaze or varnish. Needs a light cleaning.
Overall dimensions with the frame are 3" x 21.38" wide x 26" high.
