By Benjamin Williams Leader

Located in Wiscasett, ME

Oil on panel, signed and dated 1894 in the lower left and inscribed on the reverse. The frame measures 15.25" x 19.25". Leader was born in Worcester as Benjamin Leader Williams, the son, and first child of eleven children, of notable civil engineer Edward Leader Williams (1802–79) and Sarah Whiting (1801–88). His father was described as a "non conformist dissenter" and his mother was a Quaker – their marriage in an Anglican church resulted in them being disowned by the Society of friends. Leader's father was a keen amateur artist – a friend of John Constable – and Benjamin would often accompany him on sketching trips along the banks of the River Severn. His brother, also Edward Leader Williams, later became a notable civil engineer who was knighted for his work, and is now mainly remembered for designing Manchester ship canal...

'A Country Scene With a Woman Feeding the Chickens' A Victorian oil painting

By John Constable

Located in St. Albans, GB

You have the opportunity to buy this painting showing a wonderful and idyllic example of English countryside and life on a large scale impressing all who view it. Painted around 1830-40 it has a beautiful free flowing style to it and encompasses everything typical to Victorian England. Signed John Constable bottom right. We offer free shipping worldwide. Canvas Size: 40 x 50" (100 x 125cm) Outside Frame Size: 51 x 61 (127.5 x 152.5cm) We have written 'After' in the artist profile because we are not certain that it is by Constable without doing all the research, full testing and date analysis. If it was genuine it would be worth hundreds of thousands of pounds. Our initial estimation is that it might have been a piece that was finished by a student of his. The quality is excellent and the stretcher bars on the reverse are, I believe, in keeping with the ones that Constable bought. Whilst this is very common nowadays, it has an old reline so the original canvas is not visible. Without doing the background research and getting the official authentication we are only comfortable in describing it as 'After'. John Constable Constable was born in East Bergholt, Suffolk on 11 June 1776 and attended a school in Lavenham and his father hoped he would enter the church. His father was adamant that he would not be a painter as a profession. He met a local man named John Dunthorne who painted local scenes, mainly in nearby fields. His love of all things natural stemmed from this. Later he copied works by Girtin from a book that was lent to him by Sir George Beaumont...

English School landscape painting of two horses pulling a cart of woodland logs by 19th century artist Henry Harris. Artist’s signature lower left. Henry Harris is known for large oil paintings of local landscapes with sweeping skies. He paints. Figures, horses, grazing animals in rural, pastoral settings. Lovely woodland scenery in green and autumn tones, the trees are crisp and detailed along the roadway. A woman sits atop the tree trunks as a man adjusts the reins before guiding the horses onward. In the distance, visible from a cut between trees, lies a village with a picturesque white steeple and animals grazing. This painting sight is 26” high and 40” wide with a linen inset and traditional frame. With the frame the painting is 32” by 46” In overall very good condition with no noted faults. Slight scuffs on the old frame, but still highly presentable. This is a large period painting...
