Antique Edwardian Sterling Silver Candelabra
By Horace Woodward & Co. Ltd.
Located in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne
A magnificent, fine and impressive pair antique Edwardian English sterling silver three-light candelabra; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection These magnificent antique Edwardian 3-light candelabra in sterling silver have a rounded rectangular form, to a baluster column and swept rectangular base. Each impressive three light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms embellished with collar designs. The branches (labra) support two rounded rectangular baluster-shaped capitals, each encompassed with embossed fluted decoration. The capitals are fitted with the original hallmarked push fit sconces, embellished with gadroon decorated borders to the rims. Each capital of these Edwardian candelabra centrepieces surmounts an impressive drip pan, featuring identical ornamentation to that of the sconces. Each silver candelabrum is fitted with a third central elevated capital. These versatile Edwardian 3 light candelabra in sterling silver can be used as a large pair of candlesticks, once the arms are detached. The imposing, large baluster shaped column of each antique silver candlestick is encompassed with further fluted decoration to the lower portion. The plain upper portion of each swept foot is ornamented to one side with the contemporary bright cut engraved crest of a demi-lion grasping in the paws a flower head; the opposing side of the base bears an applied vacant cartouche. The lower portions of the bases are embellished with impressive embossed fluted decoration, incorporating a scallop shell design to each side. Both Edwardian silver candelabra have weighted bases, as to be expected, and are fitted with baize to the underside. These candelbra are larger than usual for their type, with very substantial bases and baluster-shaped columns; such examples in this large size and high quality are becoming increasingly difficulte to locate. Condition These magnificent examples of Edwardian decor...
