Boardman Robinson Signed Original Colorado Mountain Landscape Graphite Drawing

By Boardman Robinson

Located in Denver, CO

An evocative original graphite drawing by American artist Boardman Robinson (1876–1952), capturing the rugged beauty of the Colorado mountains through expressive linework and a beautifully restrained modernist composition. Rendered in graphite on paper, this intimate mountain landscape balances the grandeur of the American West with the subtlety of a skilled draftsman. Robinson’s confident lines and thoughtful use of space give the landscape a sense of depth and movement, while the monochromatic palette lends the work a timeless quality that complements both traditional and contemporary interiors. The drawing is signed in the lower right and inscribed “For Louise Baun” in the lower left, adding a personal detail to its history. Robinson was a significant figure in early 20th-century American art, known for his illustration, mural painting, and work within the American Modernist tradition. After moving to Colorado Springs in 1930, he became closely associated with the region’s artistic community, making this mountain landscape particularly resonant within his broader career. A Bold 1940s Cubist Mural Study of a Chicago City Scene by Rudolph Weisenborn

By Rudolph Weisenborn

Located in Chicago, IL

A bold 1940s graphite on paper WPA era mural study of a Chicago city scene by Rudolph Weisenborn. Artwork size: 12 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches. Archivally matted to 18 x 16 inches, Provenance: Estate of the artist. Rudolph Weisenborn was born in Strassburg, Germany in 1881, but was orphaned at the age of nine. He was taken-in by Mid-Western farmer Thomas Westaby and spent his early years in Wisconsin, Iowa and North Dakota. Weisenborn first attended the University of North Dakota in 1898, then the Students School of Art in Denver. Various accounts have him working out west as a gold miner and cowboy. Around 1912, he settled in Chicago and worked as a window designer for Marshall Field’s. Weisenborn is best known as the founder of the Chicago No-Jury Society of Artists. The group was founded because many artists could not get their work accepted into the mainstream Art Institute shows. Weisenborn is quoted as saying that he harbored feelings of disdain for any jury and that his own paintings were frequently rejected by conservative jurors. He was also involved and helped found other radical artist’s groups such as the Salon des Refuses, Cor Ardens and Neo-Arlimusic. In 1936, he helped found the New York-based American Abstract Artist’s Group. He created the only abstract mural for the 1933 Century of Progress Exhibition in Chicago and also worked for the Federal Arts Project in the Easel Division. His WPA murals can be found in Crane Technical High School and Nettlehorst Elementary School in Chicago, IL. In 1945, Chicago businessman Herman Spertus...

There Comes A Time

By Ivan Albright

Albright has been continuously interested in visions of the past, as he put it: A picture - a fantasy - flashes of reality and flashes of memory. The passing reality, the dream, the memory. A flash of green sunlight - a sun spot - a cool shadow - a piece of realistic curtain - a splinter of wood. After image - a bit of sky - a patch of grass.... Trees traveling over a hill - love for an object - a cake of soap - a dish - Sunlight - the moon - part of a head (Albright, in Croydon, Notebook no. 24 of June 1968 - July 1969). This interest in the past is certainly true in this painting as well as in many others. It contains a strange mixture of objects: a Spanish fan, mantilla, flowered tray, pitcher, framed picture of an art museum gallery of the past with sculptures on pedestals and women wearing long dresses. All of this is in sharp contrast to the view through the window which is of a barn and houses before mountains in the snow. The soft colors of Albright's palette here recall his early works. His attention to detail is precise and his emphasis is on carefully rendered line rather than the painterly texture of heavy brushwork. About the painting of still-lifes Albright explained: 'I walk about and put things in different positions to break up the deadness of their eternal death' (quoted in John Davis Stamm, "The Shadows of Ivan Albright...
