We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Particular and original German ceramic vase colored with a beautiful shade of red and a dark and vivid black; it has a simple shape but at the same time innovative and modernist; the beautiful and bright colors are balanced and proportioned respecting a minimalist design; the glazing of the vase was obtained by first laying down one color, proceeding to fix it by firing it in the kiln, then the same procedure was carried out for the other color; on the bottom is the mark "W. Germany"; it was produced between 1968 and 1971 in a craft workshop in the city of Dresden (then in East Germany), an important center for the production of porcelain and ceramics. Jasba Aztec Exotica Set of 3 Vases, West German Pottery 1960s

By Jasba, West German Pottery, Jasba Keramik

Located in Clifton Springs, NY

The set of 3 vintage Jasba Keramik vases from the 'Aztec' and 'Mexiko' or 'Maya Tiki' lines of their Exotica series features relief decor, influenced by ancient Pre-Columbian civilizations. The sculptural vases in the set interpret traditional vessel forms like a pitcher in a contemporary vein while referencing Pre-Columbian art with an eclectic twist. The vases are decorated with tone-on-tone ochre brown matte glazes on the outer surfaces and semi-matte black glazes on inner surfaces, allowing the complex reliefs to dominate the composition. The vases feature a central wide band of brutalist, rhythmically spaced mythic animals, derived from archaeology or from a wide range of Folk Art sources. The handles are interpreted not as functional parts of the design, but as an important aesthetic feature that was commonly used by West German pottery designers and artists in context of Krug Vase (Jug Vase, or Handled Vase) for their expressive possibilities. In this set, the small handles on two Aztec vases...

Questions About Jasba Jars
  • 1stDibs ExpertJanuary 27, 2025
Jasba pottery was made in Germany. In 1926, Jakob Schwaderlapp obtained a lease to establish his workshop in Baumbach. The name of his brand came from combining the first two letters of his first name with the first two letters of the town. Jasba produced ceramic vases and other decorative objects until the 1970s, when it began to exclusively manufacture industrial tiles. On 1stDibs, shop a range of Jasba pottery.

To identify Jasba pottery marks, look for the Jasba name. Most pieces produced by the West German pottery maker will say “JASBA” on the base. The name may appear on its own or be positioned inside a square. Some pieces also read “West Germany.” Pottery from Jasba's N Series will also usually feature a series of numbers preceded by the letter "N." You can use trusted online resources to learn your pottery's style, name and age based on these “N” markings. To get more information about your pottery, use the services of a certified appraiser or experienced antique dealer. On 1stDibs, explore a selection of Jasba pottery.
