John Budicin Art

Born in Rovigno, D'Istria, Italy, John moved to California at the age of 11, where he went to college, and continues to live today. After several years as a commercial artist and freelance illustrator, John Budicin took the opportunity to pursue his dream of becoming a plein air artist when his employer moved out of state. John loves to paint directly from nature so he paints outdoors almost every day. He paints many of his paintings close to his home in San Bernardino, California.

John Budicin received his art education from noted artists Ray Vinella, Michael Lynch, Len Chmiel and Sergei Bongart. His paintings have achieved numerous top awards from esteemed art competitions, including first place at the California Art Club’s 87th Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition. In 2002, the renowned California Club in Los Angeles selected one of his paintings for its permanent collection. Budicin has been featured in several articles published by national magazines, including Southwest Art, Art of the West, American Artist and International Artist. His paintings are also featured in the book 200 Great Painting Ideas for Artists. He teaches several workshops each year in such places as the Scottsdale Artists’ School in Arizona; Fredericksburg Artists School in Texas; Fechin Art Institute in New Mexico; and the Plein Air Painters of America’s workshops in Vermont. In 1999, he conducted the first overseas workshop in Tuscany and Umbria, Italy sponsored by the California Art Academy and Museum, an affiliate of the California Art Club.

John Budicin is a Signature Member and past president of Plein Air Painters of America, as well as a Signature Member of Oil Painters of America, and Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. He is a Signature Artist Member of the California Art Club.

"Moonlit River Scene", Early 20th Century Oil on Canvas by Luis Graner y Arrufi

By Luis Graner Y Arrufi

Located in Madrid, ES

LUIS GRANER Y ARRUFI Spanish, 1863 - 1929 MOONLIT RIVER SCENE signed and dated "L Graner 1925" (lower right) oil on canvas 20-1/8 x 30 inches (51 x 76 cm.) framed: 25-3/4 x 35-3/4 inches (65 x 90.5 cm.) PROVENANCE Private Collection, Barcelona, Spain Graner paints this work, Moonlit on the river, during his stay in the United States in the last stage of his artistic life, from 1910 to 1928, in full stage of maturity. This artwork reflects the constant search of the artist for the effects of light in his work. This persistent concern for light remains throughout his artistic life, which he learned in his Parisian stage under the influence of the painter Frances Platour. The silver light of the moon and the small lights at distance, which are tiny foci of artificial light, reflecting the river water, forming a chromatic range of greens, ocher and pearly that give a certain mystery to the composition, creating a modern approach to the landscape, by placing the two large trees at the edge of the river in the foreground Luís Graner y Arrufí, Spanish (1863–1929) was a Catalan painter in the Realistic style. He was born in Barcelona, and studied at the Escola de la Llotja from 1883, with Antoni Caba (color/composition) and Benet Mercadé (drawing). During his final year at school, he received a grant to study in Madrid, where he copied and learned from the Old Masters at the Museo del Prado. After that, supported by a fellowship, he moved to Paris and became a member of the Academie des Beaux-Arts. Later, he returned to Barcelona, but continued to travel to cities throughout Europe, including Berlin, Munich and Düsseldorf. Influenced by Richard Wagner's concept of "Gesamtkunstwerk" (Total Work of Art), he was motivated to create his own total art experience and organized the "Sala Mercè" (Mercy Hall) in Barcelona's Rambla District. The project involved contributors from every artistic discipline, including the new field of cinematography. The room was decorated by Antoni Gaudí. Other participants included Adrià Gual, Santiago Rusiñol, Ramon Casas...

"Being There" Original Oil Painting by Robert White, Frameless Display

Located in Encino, CA

“Being There,” an original oil on canvas by Robert K. White, is a piece for the true collector. White’s careful attention to detail and vivid use of browns and reds project from the painting, immediately capturing the viewer's attention and highlighting the artist's keen ability to capture emotion and life - all in a brushstroke. White's talent for depicting light and shadow provides the foundation for him to deliver subjects and scenes to the viewer's eye. This masterful work would make a great addition to an art collection and enhance most any home, perfect for those who have an affinity for cityscapes, theater, and architecture. In the artist’s own words, “I don’t paint what is inside of me; I paint what I see outside of me. I’m an observer. If I see something and I feel an affinity for it, something just clicks in my head. I’ll make the decision right then and there to paint that particular subject during that particular moment. It’s a perfect moment. Once something has caught my eye and I’ve heard the “perfect” click, it’s like a photograph has been taken in my mind’s eye. I only have a few days of clarity with that image. I have to start the painting quickly or else it will be gone and I will lose that image forever.” Artist: ROBERT KENNETH WHITE...
