Irish, 1946-2021
John S Haggan painted professionally from 1979 – 2021. He has exhibited all over Ireland and has had paintings commissioned from across the world including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, America and Canada. With commissioned pieces being held within the House of Lords collection in Westminster and many other corporate and private collections he has truly captured the attention of many with his cloudy summer skies, peaceful snow scenes and warm autumn landscapes.
His work is reminiscent of many 18th and 19th century artists and he has often been compared to Constable; having portrayed the Irish landscape on a par with Constable’s portrayal of the English landscape. Specialising in capturing the beauty, peace and tranquillity of the Irish landscape, the art works he created were always full of life.(Biography provided by Ascot Studios)

Halmstad Harbour Seen From the North, 1889

Halmstad itself, a town that straddles the Nissan river, retains much of its early 20th-century character in its city core. Low brick and half-timbered houses, some dating back to the 17th century, dot the landscape. The town center on the west side of Nissan is bordered by remnants of early 17th-century fortifications, including the 1600s castle, Norre Port from 1601, and King Charles XI's path along the old fortress wall. At the heart of the town is Stora Torg with Carl Milles' Europa and the Bull fountain from 1926, and the town hall built in 1938. The city layout, influenced by Renaissance planning, converges at Stora Torg, which is also home to the town's sole medieval building, the brick hall church of St. Nikolai from the 14th century.
