John Stellman Art
American, 1877-1961
Louis John Stellman moved to California in 1901. By 1920, he had settled in San Francisco, where he worked both as an artist and a writer for the Call-Bulletin newspaper. He later moved to the Monterey Peninsula, where he remained until his death. Stellman was married to artist Edith K. Stellman. Stellman was a protegé of Arnold Genthe and produced a significant portfolio of photographs in San Francisco's Chinatown between 1906 and the beginning of World War II.
