By Johnson Brothers

Located in Valladolid, ES

Exceptional 81-piece dinnerware set from the renowned English firm Johnson Bros., featuring a 1940s design, "Happy England." Each piece has a scalloped border, a white background, and an elegant and striking rural landscape design. The stamp on the back reads "Happy England, Made in England by Johnson Bros. A genuine hand-engraved, all decoration under the glaze, detergent & acid-resistant color pat n. 190 093. Ironstone." (“Happy England, made in England by Johnson Bros. A genuine hand-engraved design, all decoration under the glaze, resistant to detergent and acid, patent no. 190,093. Ironstone.”) It is precisely this material, known as semi-porcelain or ironstone, that earned the company its special recognition. It combines the elegance of fine porcelain with great durability, making it ideal for everyday use. The transferware technique, or glaze transfer, refers to the design being printed onto the ceramic before firing, guaranteeing precise and repeatable details. Johnson Brothers (1883–2015) Johnson Brothers was a British manufacturer and exporter of tableware, known for its early introduction of “semi-porcelain” tableware. It was one of Staffordshire's most successful potteries, producing tableware, much of which was exported to the United States from the 1890s to the 1960s. They were also major manufacturers of large-format bathroom ceramics. Some of their designs, such as "Eternal Beau," "Dawn," "Old Britain Castles...

Antique Johnson Brothers Sink on Cast Iron Stand

By Johnson Brothers

Located in Wormelow, Herefordshire

An antique sink with a cast iron stand by Johnson Brothers (Bros) of Hanley Ltd. This Victorian style porcelain sink on cast iron stand is a beautiful addition to a vintage bathroom or period style cloakroom. The antique blue marble effect basin sits upon a cast iron stand painted to simulate a walnut finish and ornately cast with a pair of striking dragons to the legs and a tall backsplash with floral transfer print tiles. This basin is further elevated by complete original fittings and beautiful cast iron stand made by BICLAM. The Simon Kirby Museum of Bathroom Sanitary Ware Sanitary ware extraordinaire and enthusiast Simon Kirby was the proud owner of a rare and impressive collection of Thomas Crapper toilets, basins and baths. As the former director of Thomas Crapper & Co, Kirby spent more than 40 years carefully sourcing these specialist pieces, making it his vocation to ensure such rare and valuable sanitary ware was saved and salvaged, creating the former Thomas Crapper Museum. Kirby made it his vocation to ensure such rare and valuable pieces were saved and salvaged. Over the years, the former museum has not been open to the public, with only a few history enthusiasts and keen customers having been invited to view a handful of pieces. Names such as Doulton and Co and Twyfords form part of this outstanding collection that demonstrates the development of sanitaryware over the centuries. Although Kirby sold the iconic Thomas Crapper company 8 years ago, he remains an expert in the history of the ‘smallest room’ and now serves as a consultant to the Royal Household. Vintage "Covered Wagons and the Rocky Mountains" Bread Plate Set by Johnson Bros

By Johnson Brothers

Located in Colorado Springs, CO

Presented is a set of two red-glazed transferware bread and butter plates, by the famous British potters Johnson Brothers. Made in England, this set comes from their “Historic America” line of ceramics, with the specific pattern celebrating the exploration and settlement of our Western states. Titled “Covered Wagons and the Rocky Mountains,” the pattern depicts a train of covered wagons in the foreground, each led by a team of oxen. The grassy valley is decorated with horse-mounted trail guides, tall trees, and even an active geyser. In the background, the sharp peaks of the Rocky Mountains loom large and grandiose. The rim of the plates are further decorated with an acorn and leaf border. British Staffordshire potteries such as Wedgwood and Johnson Brothers capitalized upon the popularity of American history seen after the Centennial of 1876 and again during the interwar period. Johnson Brothers’ serial pattern “Historic America,” introduced in 1938-39, celebrated early American history with idyllic and patriotic 19th-century themes. Scenes were modeled closely after iconic engravings by 19th century publishers, such as Currier and Ives, and subjects were chosen for how they reinforced Americans’ sense of national identity and pride. CONDITION: Very good condition. Set of two. Red transferware...
