Jon Cornin studied in New York City at the Art Students League and the Grand Central School of Art. He was also a noted teacher, respected theorist of Modernism and the author of Painter's Credo: Selected Notes (Stone House Press, 1985). Cornin exhibited widely and with success, and was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards.

Jon Cornin first studied with Raphael Soyer at New York's Art Student's League and, subsequently, at the Grand Central School of Art. Using the pseudonym, CorKa, he and his wife, Zena Kavin produced cartoons for Saturday Evening Post and the New Yorker from 1941-1952. The Cornins moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1940 and settled in Oakland. In addition to his career as a painter, Jon Cornin was also a noted teacher, respected theorist of Modernism and the author of 'Painter's Credo: Selected Notes' (Stone House Press, 1985). He exhibited widely and with success and was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards.

Dennis Eugene Norman Burton was a Canadian modernist who was born in Lethbridge, Ontario. He attended the Ontario College of Art from 1952 to 1956, and worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) as a graphic designer until 1960.
Inspired by a 1955 exhibition of the “Painters Eleven” at Toronto’s Hart House, as well as American Abstract Expressionist artists such as Robert Motherwell, Jack Tworkov, and Willem de Kooning, Burton shifted his focus toward abstraction in the mid-1950s.
Burton showed with the famed Isaacs Gallery in Toronto, becoming one of the youngest members on the gallery’s roster. A talented musician, he also played saxophone in the Artist’s Jazz Band in Toronto - a pioneering Canadian free-jazz group...

Frederick Conway (1900-1973) was a painter, educator, and lecturer. From 1929 to 1970, Conway was a member of the faculty of the Washington University Art School. When Max Beckmann was in residence at Washington University, he and Conway became close associates. Conway was one of the first to realize the importance and seriousness of Beckmann's teaching.
