Julie Lee Mixed Media
Julie Lee was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1958. She moved to Texas with her family in 1971. Lee received a BS in biology from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, in 1981 and has been employed by the Texas Department of Health since 1982. She teaches and studies Hatha yoga.
“I am a gardener. I have always put things in boxes. I studied clay at the Art School in Beaumont in 1988 and printmaking at the Beaumont Art League in 1998. I learned to build things from my father. I learned to sew from my mother. I started making boxes in 1995," Lee writes. She has participated in the following shows: Beaumont Art League 3-D Show in 1995; Beaumont Art League Membership Show in 1995; the Art Studio Membership Show in 1998; the Baytown Show in 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999; Spectrum '98 at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas in Beaumont; "Wonder Boxes" solo show at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas Cafe in Beaumont. Her boxes are on display at the Menil Bookstore in Houston, Texas.
