Art Nouveau Bust of a Beautiful Woman, Artist Signed J. Causse
By Julien Causse
Located in Petaluma, CA
We admittedly do not buy a lot of busts, but then they usually don't look like this beauty. This bust is actually not bronze, but a metal that we sculpture dealers refer to as spelter. The general public usually hears the phrase "pot metal". In any case the casting, patina, and weight would not ever to convince one that this is not bronze. Normally the factory applied patina is not this beautiful or in this condition on spelter. This statue was expertly made. It has a title, which reads, "Muguet". It is artist signed by the French sculptor J. Causse, who is one our favourite Art Nouveau artists. He did many fine models. He worked in bronze as well. The good news is the price for spelter is much more affordable than bronze, and really in this case the buyer will be sacrificing not a thing. This really looks and feels like bronze, and most dealers would list this as bronze. Fortunately for our buyers we know the difference and so nobody pays bronze money...
