Julien Vermeulen, founder of Maison Vermeulen, a featherwork atelier, discovered the art of plumasserie along his artistic journey. Trained in applied arts at Lycée Octave Feuillet, the last French institution to teach featherwork, Julien Vermeulen earned a BTS in Fashion Design as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Art Sciences.When he first encountered featherwork while working at Jean Paul Gaultier, it was a revelation: he realised that feathers could be far more than mere ornamentation, possessing the power to transform and metamorphose in his hands. From an early stage, he developed an experimental approach to volume and materials.
In 2014, he founded his own atelier with a clear ambition: to breathe new life into the art of plumasserie. He quickly began collaborating with some of the most prestigious names in fashion, creating unique pieces that reinterpret the codes of luxury and craftsmanship. Dior, Cartier, Louis Vuitton… He also creates contemporary art works and is represented in this field by Galerie Maison Parisienne. Today, these works have been presented in international institutions and have notably entered the collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
