Jun Ahn Landscape Photography

b. 1981

South Korean Jun Ahn came to study in the US, where she graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in art history in 2006, followed by two years of postgraduate study of photography at the Pratt Institute. While at the Pratt, she had her first work displayed as part of group gallery exhibitions and began work on the Self-Portrait project, which to date is her most prominent series of photographs, which she regards as a performance without an audience, an end of the youth of sorts and a coming to terms with the future. In 2009–10, she was awarded the Dean’s Scholarship at New York’s Parsons School for Design, and in 2011, received both the Dean's and a departmental scholarship. During this time, her work received its first major exhibitions, including a joint exhibition with Kazuna Taguchi at PS 122 in New York. Furthermore, Ahn has been selected as one of BJP’s 20 Photographers To Watch in 2013. Parsons awarded her a Master of Fine Arts with honors in January 2012, after which she acquired a Ph.D. in photography from Hongik University in Seoul.

STORM AT SEA #1, Los Angeles 2010
By Jay Mark Johnson
Located in Santa Monica, CA
This large format, color-photograph belongs to Jay Mark Johnson's wave series - the images from which depict the rhythmic cycling and recycling of oceanfront waves as recorded on remote coastlines around the world--in Hawaii, Florida, California, the Caribbean, Great Britain, Australia and South Africa. These artworks belong to the artist’s ongoing inquiry into the possibilities for timeline photography. For this decades-long project Johnson employs an unconventional camera system to produce seamless delineated renderings of familiar events as they occur over time. The results present an altered view of our surroundings. Artworks from Johnson’s timeline series have been exhibited extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. They can be found in the permanent collections of the Bundestag (German Parliament) in Berlin, the Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie at Karlsruhe, the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, the Phoenix Art Museum, the Langen Foundation, Hombroich, Germany, the Peter Klein...

How the Rich do Street Art - Naples Arch
By Robert Funk
Located in Miami, FL
Robert Funk’s photographs of elaborate landscaping redefine what Street Art is. Street Art from the rich is to be found on every corner in Naples. It's a city with perhaps more flowers than weeds. Hedge Fun is a series that celebrates the landscaping commissioned by well-heeled homeowners, high-end condos and ritzy commercial establishments. Shrubs, bushes, and trees are transformed from organic shapes into man-made graphics. They become stripped of surrounding detail to the point that they become abstract in their impact. On any given day in South Florida, there is an army of landscaping trucks with gardeners and groundsmen working meticulously to beautify the street scape...
