Leo Tecosky deconstructs iconography through a range of glassmaking processes. From blown graffiti letters etched with Islamic patterns to hot-sculpted, Wildstyle-arrow installations, Tecosky juxtaposes the complexity of visual language with the fluidity and transparency of glass. The layers of his work reflect cultural exchange and the mathematics within archetypes.
“Like breakdancing or writing graffiti, molten glass is a body-oriented medium, subject to physical forces- time, temperature, and gravity. Working through the lens of Hip Hop, I collapse divergent craft languages into sculpture, looping processes layered with improvisation. The reconfigured techniques dismantle glass hegemony and subvert the boundaries of craft traditions. My elements- blowing, cutting, enameling, illuminating- build on the Hip Hop framework of expression.”
Leo Tecosky holds an MFA from the School of Visual Arts and an undergraduate degree from Alfred University. In 2023 Tecosky received the Maxwell/Hanrahan Award in Craft. Recent exhibitions were at the Brooklyn Museum and Cooper Hewitt with collections by the Chrysler Museum and Flint Institute of Arts. Tecosky lives and blows glass in Brooklyn, NY.

This emerald green-tinted blown glass wine glass exemplifies the exceptional craftsmanship of the Daum manufactory in Nancy around 1900. Its ribbed design lends a subtly animated texture, while delicate gold highlights - applied using the combed decoration technique - gracefully accent the rim and base. This model closely resembles the renowned Gui glassware service designed by Edmond Lachenal (1855 - c.1955), an esteemed ceramicist and painter. For this commission, Lachenal collaborated with the Daum glassworks and the Keller & Guérin manufactory in Lunéville for the faience components.
