Mexican Handmade Ceramic Skull Sculpture Collection Made in Limited Editions
By Omar Hernández
Located in Queretaro, Queretaro
"As a Mexican and Oaxacan, but more as Omar, I see death as something present. It´s something that is a part of life and when you think about death, you begin to value a lot of things. Death is important to me because it’s a constant threat. If you think about dying now, you would probably do things that in another moment you would say, “I’ll do it later.” I see death as an opportunity to live a better life...a continuation of something," says Mexican ceramist Omar Hernández. Omar Hernandez is a Mexican ceramist born and raised in Oaxaca, Mexico. As a child, growing up in a family of potters he didn't have much interest in making pottery, but in his early 20's he realized he could do other things with clay that weren't necessarily utilitarian pieces. It was then that Omar started his skull...

Big Stoneware Sculpture by Maarten Stuer, 2016
By Maarten Stuer
Located in Neuilly-en- sancerre, FR
A big stoneware sculpture by Maarten Stuer. Perfect original conditions. Unique piece. Artist monogram at the base. 2016. Everything is connected. Water, earth, fire, air and the firmament. These natural elements sometimes come together, which can lead to fireworks but also creativity and beauty. Take clay modelling, for example, which goes back to the dawn of time. Particularly if we are to believe the many founding myths that come to us from around the world. A demiurge or a divinity breathes life into a human figure, fashioned from clay. Later, this creature steals fire from the god. The ability to make and control fire marks the true genesis of the human race. The theory of evolution confirms this view. «The discovery of fire is probably the greatest, excepting language, ever made by man,» writes Charles Darwin (1803-1882). We use fire for protection, to provide warmth and light, Cook food, make pottery, forge weapons, dominate nature and our fellow men, explore the world… even destroy it. Thus to control fire implies that we also control ourselves. The big bang is within us. We share this same energy of fire with the tiniest particle in the most distant galaxy. Do these particles also contain the faculty for intelligence and happiness? In the hands of Maarten Stuer (Yokohama, 1965), clay no longer seems compact, heavy or inert. Through his imposing ceramic sculptures, he gives this, the ultimate earthly substance, an almost cosmic dimension. The inspiration for his abstract formal language comes from the elements, or from simple, organic, natural structures.* *[text by Joris Capenberghs, curator of «In Between - Entre cieux et terre», Gaasbeek and Groenenberg (Belgium), 2013] Born in 1965, in Yokohama, Japan.
