Malcolm Ludvigsen Landscape Paintings

Malcolm Ludvigsen was born in the UK, in 1946, and is a plein-air oil painter best known for his Yorkshire seascapes and beach scenes. He believes that working outside, directly in front of the subject, gives his work a life and vibrancy sadly lacking in much studio work. Ludvigsen paintings can be seen in homes and galleries throughout the UK and the USA and many other places too. In 2013, he won the Oldie, £5000, British Art Award. As well as being a painter, Ludvigsen is also a professor of mathematics, specializing in relativity and cosmology. About 10 years ago, he took a sabbatical and started painting for fun. The thing that first attracted him was John Ruskin’s exhortation that all men, as part of their morning salutations, should go out and paint a picture of the sky. This sounded like a very nice thing to do, so he decided to give it a go, and he’s not stopped painting since.

Robert K. White "Movement" aka "At Sea" 5-Foot Seascape Oil Painting on Canvas

By Robert Kenneth White

Located in Miami, FL

ROBERT KENNETH WHITE (b. 1950) – "Movement" aka "At Sea" Oil on Canvas ⚜ Signed Lower Right and Titled on Verso ⚜ Frameless Display AN IMMERSIVE STUDY OF OCEAN ENERGY In "Movement" aka "At Sea," Robert Kenneth White focuses on the open water itself, building the composition out of rolling swells, shifting currents, and crisp highlights that skim across the surface. The sea feels alive and dimensional, with layers of deep blue and turquoise creating both depth and motion, while the softened sky keeps the viewer’s attention locked on the water’s constant rhythm. This is not a literal coastline view. It is a concentrated marine painting that captures the experience of the ocean: restless, luminous, and endlessly changing. The result is a large-scale seascape that reads as contemporary realism from a distance, yet becomes richly painterly up close, a hallmark of White’s approach to light, atmosphere, and surface. WHY COLLECT THIS WORK? ✓ Large-scale seascape with strong visual presence and room-defining impact ✓ Ocean subject with year-round appeal for coastal, nautical, and modern interiors ✓ Exceptional handling of wave movement and reflected light across open water ✓ A compelling example of White’s contemporary marine painting in oil on canvas ARTWORK DETAILS: ▸ Title: "Movement" [also known as "At Sea"] ▸ Artist: Robert Kenneth White (b. 1950) ▸ Medium: Oil on Canvas ▸ Year of Creation: 2019 ▸ Signature: Hand Signed Lower Right and Titled on Verso ▸ Provenance: Private Collection ▸ Country of Origin: United States ▸ Dimensions: — ◼︎ Canvas Size: 40 x 60 x 1 inches ▸ Condition: Excellent, commensurate with age ▸ Framing: Frameless Display, ready to hang or frame INCLUDED DOCUMENTATION: ✓ Certificate of Authenticity ✓ Artist Biography Document THE ARTIST: Robert Kenneth White (b. 1950) is a celebrated American painter known for luminous coastal landscapes, marine paintings, figurative works, and portraits executed in oil on canvas. Raised in Salinas, California, White developed an enduring connection to the Central Coast and Monterey region, returning repeatedly to ocean and shoreline subjects where light, atmosphere, and motion become the true narrative. White’s work is frequently sought by collectors searching for California coastal...

Nineteenth Century Winter Landscape in Pennsylvania by Thomas Birch

By Thomas Birch

Located in Philadelphia, PA

Thomas Birch (American, born England, 1779-1851) Winter Landscape, Pennsylvania Oil on canvas, 18 x 24 inches FRAMED: 27 x 33 inches (approx.) Thomas Birch was born in Warwickshire, England, son of the enamel and miniature painter William Russell Birch (1755-1834). He and his father settled in Philadelphia in 1794 and produced popular sets of engravings that documented the city's growth such as The City of Philadelphia (1800) and Country Seats (1808). Thomas Birch began to paint portraits around 1806, and soon gravitated to the subjects that made him famous, landscapes, winter scenes, and marine scenes. Birch also painted numerous winter scenes throughout his career, perhaps influenced by the popularity of sleighing and skating in Philadelphia. His landscapes represented the more rustic tradition of English painting and although the subject matter was either the Pennsylvania of New Jersey countryside, Birch’s imagination was oriented toward seventeenth century Dutch painting as he was influenced by artists Jan van Goyen and Salomon van Ruysdael. Birch frequently exhibited his work at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Artists’ Fund Society, formed in 1835. His art was influential in the later development of the Hudson River School of painting and the style of romantic realism...
