He started exhibiting at the Salon of French Artists in 1922. In 1926, Ehlinger received a bronze medal and a silver medal in 1928. In 1938, a major exhibition only on his painting was organized in the Galerie Charpentier. Finally, he won a gold medal, Hors Concours 1941. Ehlinger became famous for female portraits, nudes and children portraits. His studio was in Montmartre, Paris. His work is present in many French museums and particularly in the Saint Die City Museum, East of France, where 37 of his paintings and many drawings are exhibited. Ehlinger died in 1981 in Belfort.
