Annalou e la Fata Verde by Paolo Pallucco
By Paolo Pallucco
Located in Fonte Nuova, RM
Annalou e la Fata Verde, cabinet (wooden). Created by Paolo Pallucco in the early 1990s. The cabinet has two doors.
This product is an "artist proof" of one of the pieces included in the "Victims" series, subheading "Never ending series of dreams". All the furnitures included in "Victims" count of 5 pieces plus an "artist proof", for a total of 6 pieces, with date and author's signature imprinted. Storage cabinet designed using simple, elementary, almost childlike signs and volumes, assembled by simple superimposition. This one is realized in beechwood treated with shellac.
The idea – or perhaps the need – to design a series of furnishing accessories that are even further away (than the previous ones already were) from any theoretical and speculative logic, has distant origins and dates to the relationship of friendship and esteem that linked Paolo Pallucco to Mario Schifano.
The painter had appreciated the "100 chairs in one night" exhibition, to the point of showing some of those artifacts in large paintings.
When the opportunity arose to replicate the exhibition elsewhere (the work had been exhibited in the Emilio Mazzoli gallery in Modena and later in Munich, in the Bernd Klüser gallery), the architect evaluated the opportunity to give that heterogeneous tribal multitude, to this sort of black, mute, and disturbing ethnicity of dubious and unknown origin, a different image, a new aesthetic and sensorial impact. He therefore proposed to Mario Schifano to intervene on a series of one hundred chairs...

Chair No. 9 by Rei Kawakubo, 1986
By Rei Kawakubo, Paolo Pallucco
Located in București, B
Rei Kawakubo began designing one-off chairs and tables in 1983 for her two shops in Tokyo and Paris, "to create a complete environmental setting for [her] clothes”. Her first designs were chairs made of steel and granite, where she played with the limits of sculpture and furniture. When an Italian magazine editor encouraged her to license and distribute the pieces in 1986, she briefly entered limited-edition production. Around 1987, when the present lot was produced, Kawakubo opened a short-lived Comme des Garçons...

"Sedia No. 90" Chair by Paolo Pallucco, 1990
By Paolo Pallucco
Located in București, B
Chair number 90 "Sedia di misura a compasso incorporato" is part of the series "100 Sedie in una Notte" designed by Paolo Pallucco and produced by Galleria d'Arte Contemporanea Emilio Mazzoli in Modena, Italy 1990. Only four items of each design were produced over the years, each signed and numbered by Pallucco.
Considered today one of the most radical designers of the 1980s, Paolo Palluco has successfully merged a nostalgic modernist sensibility with a postmodernist attitude.
Inspired by a poem by German writer Rainer Maria Rilke, in which the main character is facing his last night on earth, Paolo Pallucco envisioned himself spending his last night drawing 100 chairs, which resulted in the hybrid project 100 Sedie in una Notte. Each chair has a playful name, given by art critic Achile Bonito Oliva.

Paolo Pallucco Acquariano Bed Structure in Beechwood and Steel 1980s Italy
By Paolo Pallucco, Pallucco
Located in Montecatini Terme, IT
Acquariano bed structure with frame and slats in beech wood, headboard and legs in black painted steel.
Designed by Paolo Pallucco and produced by Pallucco in the 1980s.
Pallucco, moving away from the dominant styles, has always experimented with new solutions by searching for particular shapes and objects with strong aesthetic contents, drawing on different cultural sources and allowing himself to be contaminated by them. "It takes the eyes of a sailor to see the shore beyond the horizon"... these are the eyes with which Pallucco has traveled the streets of design since the 80s, identifying and choosing not what is simple fashion, but what representing the style trend. A careful, cultured and non-conformist approach, which has allowed the company to establish itself on the international scene since its foundation. Proof of this are the installations in the spaces of the Mattatoio in Milan (1987 / 1988 / 1989) and the collaborations with Peter Lindbergh and Rei Kawakubo. Rigor and urban minimalism are the cornerstones of Pallucco in the 1990s under the artistic direction of Hannes Wettstein, who designed one of his masterpieces for the company, the Continua bookcase, bringing the concept of technology to the forefront of the design world as new form beyond aesthetics. The 2000s are dedicated to decoration. The artistic direction of Jurgen Bey shifts Pallucco's attention to new forms and new formal languages. At the same time, the group of designers who produce and experiment with new solutions expands, exploring the frontiers of contemporary design with the freedom of expression that is the most authentic signature of the Pallucco style. Hannes Wettstein, Jean Nouvel, Tom Dixon, Jaime Hayón, Christian Deuber, Sergio Calatroni...
