Goldscheider Vienna Art-Déco Figure & Lamp, 'Peacock Dancer', by Paul Philippe
By Paul Philippe, Goldscheider Manufactory of Vienna
Located in Vienna, AT
One of the most extraordinary and decorative models that Goldscheider ever has produced: Upright dancer, leaning slightly backwards and looking to the right exotic dancer with bustier and narrow loincloth, on the short, brown hair a pink-brown ringed cap, behind the artist, starting from the hips, a large fan in the manner of raised peacock feathers in green, blue and brown, the outstretched right hand touching the plumage. Behind the dancer a tall, slim pedestal with a round column + capital, piercing through the plumage and serving as a holder for the lamp thread with the lampshade suspension, large, pointed, round lampshade, with indented gradations. On an oval, stepped, black base. Designed by Paul PHILIPPE (1870 - 1930), Sculptor; studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin. In 1900 he moved to Paris, where he soon lived in Les Fusains, an artists' colony at the foot of Montmartre in the 18th arrondissement and was a pupil of Antonin Larreux ’(1859–1913). From 1902 to 1909 he exhibited at the salons of the Société des Artistes Français in Paris. Goldscheider made several of his Art Nouveau and Art Deco...
