Philippe Pasqua Figurative Sculptures

French, b. 1965

Philippe Pasqua has emerged as one of the major artists of his generation. His taste for the monumental is opposed to the attraction he has for what is most vulnerable and deep. For several years, Pasqua has also been going to Carrara frequently, where he sculpts skulls weighing several tons that are like massive stars radiating telluric energy. At the foundry, he produces large bronze casts that are then plunged into baths of chrome. Pasqua’s huge sculptures have embellished the streets of Paris and were exhibited at the 53rd Venice Biennale, in Moscow, Germany, Beijing, Monaco, Israel, and the United States. His latest exhibition in September 2017, extended until January 2018, was a great success. Today, Philippe Pasqua is considered one of the most important sculptors and painters working in France, and his works collect large sums in auctions. Pasqua has exhibited in several museums to great acclaim, including his retrospective at Ahlers Foundation (Hanover, Germany, 2010), “Painting and Drawing” at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (June 2010), and the monumental show “Borderline” at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco (2017).

Catch me if you can!- 21st Century Dutch Bronze Sculpture of a Squirrel
By Frans van Straaten
Located in Nuenen, Noord Brabant
This squirrel is made by Dutch Artist Frans van Straaten. Van Straaten should be called an artist of balance always searching for harmony between force and movement in combination with space. Because of the wide range in his art-education he has mastered the art of drawing, painting and sculpting technology. However, the classical plastic art of sculpture and modelling opens up the possibility for him to create his own language of sculpture in answer to his urge for art. Due to this style of sculpting, the preference for bronze is natural. After his study of sculpture at the Academy of Art in Rotterdam (1988), Frans van Straaten creates bronze sculptures in which he unites force and movement. Feeling and Emotion converted into Matter Sculpture is an experience of space combined with the challenge of the three-dimensional. The tension of space and movement are the themes, which Frans expresses in his sculptures. Summary it can be said that the power of life and being, the feeling and emotion by force and movement will be converted into matter. The experience of space is being expressed in the shapes and characters in each of Frans’ sculptures. His sculptures of bulls express explosive power while the horses find their strength in being elegant. Each sculpture recalls this way their own association and serves as a metaphor for a certain emotion. Feelings, which has inspired the artist for each sculpture. Powerful and Elegant Looking at the works of this artist, it becomes very clear that one of his most important sources is his background in art history. The Renaissance period as well as several Italian artists served as inspiration to Frans as a sculpture. For instance the expressions in Leonardo da Vinci’s artworks, and also Giovanni Bologna...

Bronze butterfly vanity , artist proof number 1 /4
By Philippe Pasqua
Located in Paris, FR
Mirror polished bronze butterfly vanity artist's proof 1/4 Signed Through his extraordinary journey, the French artist, Philippe Pasqua, has emerged as one of the major artists of his generation. His taste for the monumental is opposed to the attraction he has for what is most vulnerable and deep. For several years, the artist has also been going to Carrara frequently, where he sculpts skulls weighing several tons that are like massive stars radiating telluric energy. At the foundry, he produces large bronze casts that are then plunged into baths of chrome. The skulls that emerge — human or animal, like that of the hippopotamus — become like mirrors: sometimes you only see their blinding reflection, sometimes they disappear, so that what they are reflecting emerges. And on approaching them, inevitably it is our own image that we see. He explores the theme of butterfly-decorated vanities, emphasizing the contrast between the symbol of the soul in ancient Egypt and the great fragility of existence. The skulls represent the spirit of the elders who take flight to become butterflies by the purity of their souls, symbolizing a new cycle of life to celebrate the ephemeral and the infinite. He launches into the realization of a tyrannosaurus Rex in aluminum-chrome of 7 meters long and 4 meters high, composed of 350 bones molded on a real prehistoric skeleton and assembled one after the other. Pasqua’s huge sculptures have embellished the streets of Paris, and were exhibited at the 53rd Venice Biennale, in Moscow, Germany, Beijing, Monaco, Israel and the United States. His latest exhibition in September 2017, extended until January 2018, was a great success. Pasqua has exhibited in several museums to great acclaim, including his retrospective at Ahlers Foundation (Hanover, Germany, 2010), “Painting and Drawing” at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (June 2010) , Galerie Zemack juin 2017 and the monumental show “Boarderline” at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco (2017). To invest the premises of the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco with monumental works, all inspired by a single theme: the preservation of the oceans and our planet, this is what Philippe Pasqua set himself as a challenge. An extraordinary work where XXL pieces interact with the museum's permanent collections. This "Borderline" exhibition featured twelve works, some of which were created especially for the place ("Santa muerte...
