KORIN: TRANQUILITY Limited. Superflat, Pop Art, Japanese Flowers Silver Black
By Takashi Murakami
Located in Madrid, Madrid
KÕRIN: TRANQUILITY Date of creation: 2020 Medium: Offset lithograph with cold stamp and high gloss varnish on paper Edition number: 123/300 Size: 71 cm Ø Condition: In mint conditions, stored & sent flat and never framed Observations: High quality and textured offset lithograph with cold stamp and screen printed with UV gloss varnish on paper. Hand signed and numbered by Takashi Murakami. Limited edition of 300 published by Kaikai Kiki Co. Tranquility, serenity or peacefulness are words represented much alike in Japanese kanjis. All these meanings sure represent the culture and feeling of the traditional Japanese arts too. It was during the Heian Period (794 – 1185 CEE) that gold or silver foil took main presence in Japanese visual arts, as heritage from the Chinese painting. Korin and Kansei series by Takashi Murakami employ this use of golden and silver backgrounds, textured with skulls in many of this works, over which he displays colorful and vibrant flora. ABOUT THE ARTIST Takashi Murakami (Tokyo, 1962) is a contemporary artist whom, through painting and digital or commercial mediums, has developed a language that blends popular culture with formal elements of Japanese traditional art. He applied for the National University of Fine Arts and Music in Tokyo where he received his doctorate in Nihonga, a discipline that blends the traditional study of east and west. In 1990 Murakami begins his career as a contemporary artist and in 1993 he created Mr. DOB, a self-portrait. Develops a new artistic style he calls "Superflat" which is characterized by the bi-dimensionality and the fusion of traditional Japanese art, anime, manga and Pop Art. Soon he begins to be called as the Japanese Andy Warhol...

James Rosenquist F-111 announcement (60s pop art)
By (after) James Rosenquist
Located in NEW YORK, NY
James Rosenquist F-111 announcement: Vintage original folding exhibition pamphlet published on the occasion of a 1960’s exhibition in Stockholm at the Museet Moderna: September 29th-October 18th 1965. Features a reproduction of Rosenquist’s famed “F-111”. Folding out to four portions, the reverse chronicles an extensive interview (in Swedish) between Rosenquist & the museum. Rare and highly collectible. Medium: Offset printed fold-out museum pamphlet. Condition: Quattro fold-lines as issued; good overall vintage condition. Dimensions: 5.5 x 11 inches (opening to 5.5 x 44 inches). Unsigned from an edition of unknown; rare. Rosenquist began the painting F-111 in 1964, in the middle of the Vietnam War. He positioned his main subject, the F-111 military plane, which was in development at the time, flying through fragmented images of consumer products and references to war. Through its expansive network of colliding visual motifs, F-111 addresses the connections between the Vietnam War, income taxes, consumerism, and advertising. James Rosenquist was an American Pop artist known for his monumental paintings and prints. Often appropriating commercial imagery, his montage-like works combined popular culture, surrealism, and historical painting methods. “Much of the aesthetic of my work comes from doing commercial art,” the artist once said. “I painted pieces of bread, Arrow shirts...
