John Saladino Model 999 Clear Hand-Blown Glass Table Lamp & Shade, circa 1970s
John Saladino Model 999 Clear Hand-Blown Glass Table Lamp & Shade, circa 1970s

John Saladino Model 999 Clear Hand-Blown Glass Table Lamp & Shade, circa 1970s

By Pyrex, John Saladino

Located in Lambertville, NJ

An original Model 999 table lamp designed by acclaimed architect and designer John Saladino, one of the most iconic and sought-after lighting designs of the late 20th century. Described by Saladino as "as close as I can come to a non-lamp," the Model 999 is celebrated for its extraordinary simplicity and visual lightness. The seamless cylindrical base is crafted from heavy-walled, industrial-grade hand-blown glass with subtle bubbles that enhance its handcrafted character. Its transparent form creates the illusion of the shade floating effortlessly in space, allowing the lamp to provide illumination without visual weight. Chrome hardware and a white acrylic diffuser add crisp architectural detailing while softly dispersing light beneath the shade. The result is a design that is simultaneously sculptural, minimalist, and highly functional. Originally acquired as part of a matching estate pair, this lamp shares provenance with its companion example, which bore the sought-after PYREX marking associated with authentic John Saladino Model 999 lamps. While the companion lamp was later damaged during shipping, its original marking provides compelling support for the attribution of this example. Included with the sale are the lamp's original paper shade and an additional original shade retained from the companion lamp. The lamp features traditional French wiring and remains in working condition. The purity of the design makes it exceptionally versatile. Equally at home in modernist, minimalist, contemporary, transitional, Hollywood Regency, and even traditional interiors, it works beautifully on a bedside table, console, desk, library table, or living room end table. The transparent glass base allows it to integrate effortlessly into virtually any decorating scheme while adding a sophisticated architectural presence. More than simply a table lamp, the Model 999 is considered one of John Saladino's most recognizable designs, admired by collectors and designers for its groundbreaking simplicity and timeless appeal. John Saladino, John Saladino lamp...

Questions About Pyrex Furniture

  • 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 22, 2021
Yes, vintage Pyrex is worth money on the second hand market. When searching for valuable Pyrex, look for rare patterns such as Lucky in Love, which was introduced in 1959. In 2015, a Lucky in Love one-quart round casserole dish sold for $4,000 in an online auction.
