"This painting was created in one fast sitting, with furious yet thoughtful brushstrokes," explains Rachel. "The acrylic paint ranges from thick impasto a thin watercolor-like veil." Part of Rachel's signature cubist coffee series. For these pieces, she studies her extensive collection of cafetieres that she keeps in her studio. The works are both about celebrating her love of coffee, and depicting light, pattern, and repetition as though it were set to music.

Located in New Orleans, LA
Calvert’s current paintings investigate the relationship between digital media and the reception and perception of images, and utilizes diverse technologies such as fresco, 3D modeling, AI and data manipulation through code. She is especially interested in the evolution of pictorial space. Today we view our screens and the world they occupy as a shallowly layered space of overlapping desktop windows. The picture plane has tilted up again from the flatbed to float in front of our eyes. Calvert’s paintings in turn depict an intermediate space, where the verticality of the still life paintings cohabitate with these digital panes. Dutch floral still life paintings encapsulate multiple concerns. Their subjects were botanical fantasies, emblems of an economic mirage that has contemporary corollaries. Most important to Calvert’s pictorial concerns, they depict ephemeral things in shallow and diagrammatic space - they are all foreground. They contain an abundance of visual information in overwhelming density, creating an allover resolution; a visual field that is equivalent to digital noise. By making painterly interventions into reproductions, Calvert attempts to dissolve the layer between the resolution of the source image and abstraction of the painted mark. ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ Tiffany Calvert has exhibited her work in the US and abroad including Lawrimore Project in Seattle, E.TAY Gallery in New York, the Speed Museum in Louisville and Cadogan Contemporary in London. Residencies include the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, I-Park, and ArtOmi International Arts Center where she received a Geraldine R. Dodge Fellowship. Calvert has received grants from the Great Meadows Foundation and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. Her work was recently profiled by critic John Yau in the online journal Hyperallergic. Tense (pet dog, bulldog, baseball, animal portrait art, surrealist oil painting)
By Rudolf Kosow
Located in Quebec, Quebec
"Tense," a thought-provoking piece by Rudolf Kosow, presents a surreal interplay between a colossal bulldog and a diminutive baseball player. The dog's face, detailed with astonishing realism, conveys a palpable intensity through its piercing gaze. The size disparity between the dog and the player underscores a narrative ripe with anticipation. The baseball player, clad in traditional attire, stands with bat at the ready, embodying a moment of concentration and readiness. This portrayal of the player, so starkly contrasted against the vastness of the bulldog's features, evokes a feeling of an undercurrent of suspense, as if the outcome of this encounter balances on a knife-edge. Through "Tense," Kosow delves into the theme of confrontation and the moments that precede action. The artwork captures the stillness before the storm, the quiet before the play, offering a metaphor for life's high-pressure situations where individuals face larger-than-life challenges. The painting invites reflection on the psychological interplay between fear and courage, the small against the mighty, and the personal tenacity required to stand firm in the face of overwhelming odds. "Tense" is not just a snapshot of a surreal encounter but a broader commentary on the emotional landscapes we navigate when confronted with formidable obstacles. keywords; painting on canvas, surrealist painting, animal vs human, americana, nature, man, man vs nature, surrealism, giant animal...

Parting (pet dog, bulldog, cowboy, animal portrait art, surrealist oil painting)
By Rudolf Kosow
Located in Quebec, Quebec
"Parting," a surrealistic painting by Rudolf Kosow, masterfully employs scale to create a poignant narrative of farewell. The canvas is dominated by the face of a bulldog, each hair and whisker intricately detailed, exuding a warmth and expressiveness that captures the essence of the breed. The bulldog's large, soulful eye, reflecting a quiet resignation, suggests an awareness of an impending separation. Perched thoughtfully on the dog's snout, a diminutive figure of a man wearing a cowboy hat sits, his posture one of contemplative sorrow. The man dangles his legs over the edge of the snout, a symbol of the precipice between companionship and the solitude of parting. Kosow's work deeply explores the themes of connection and departure. The intimate positioning of the man against the vastness of the dog's facial landscape evokes the shared history and emotional bond between human and animal. The painting's title, "Parting," may imply an imminent physical separation, yet the closeness of the two subjects suggests an unbreakable emotional tie that distance cannot sever. In this piece, Kosow invites the viewer to consider the bittersweet moments of goodbye that are an intrinsic part of life's journey, highlighting the enduring nature of love that remains through any farewell. "Parting" is a testament to the poignant beauty found in the strength of connections that transcend the constraints of size and species. keywords; painting on canvas, surrealist painting, animal vs human, americana, nature, man, man vs nature, surrealism, giant animal...

Cuddly (black old dog, snout, lady, vintage, animal, surrealist oil painting)
By Rudolf Kosow
Located in Quebec, Quebec
"Cuddly," a charming painting by Rudolf Kosow, depicts a tender and affectionate moment between a dog and its human companion. The dog’s face, with soulful eyes and a furrowed brow, is portrayed in stunning detail, conveying a sense of gentle wisdom and patience. A small lady figure, fitting perfectly within the curve of the dog's face, leans in close, as if finding comfort and protection in the animal’s embrace. The gesture of the figure, with a hand delicately placed, highlights the trust and love inherent in this bond. This piece beautifully encapsulates the warmth and security that pets provide. Kosow's artwork celebrates the simple, heartwarming connections that form the cornerstone of our relationships with our animal friends, reminding us of the comfort and joy found in their company. keywords; painting on canvas, surrealist painting, animal vs human, americana, nature, man, man vs nature, surrealism, giant animal...

Soulmates (brown pet dog, lady, vintage, animal, surrealist oil painting)
By Rudolf Kosow
Located in Quebec, Quebec
Soulmates," a poignant work by Rudolf Kosow, tenderly illustrates the profound bond shared between a dog and a human. In this intimate portrayal, the dog's gaze is imbued with an emotional depth that transcends the boundaries between species. Its eyes, rendered with striking clarity, convey a world of understanding and companionship. The lady, is nestled against the dog's face in a pose that suggests a mutual trust and shared existence. This closeness speaks to a relationship that goes beyond the conventional pet-owner dynamic, hinting at a deeper, spiritual connection—a true meeting of souls. In Kosow's vision, the concept of soulmates expands, encompassing the idea that our most understanding and compassionate partners may not be human at all. The painting's title, "Soulmates," encapsulates the notion that kindred spirits are connected not by words, but by the heart and soul, through gestures of love and moments of silent understanding. With "Soulmates," Kosow invites us to contemplate the essence of connection and the forms it can take. It's a celebration of the unspoken bond that animals and humans can share, an acknowledgment that the purest forms of love and understanding sometimes require no language. This piece serves as a beautiful reminder of the loyalty, comfort, and unconditional acceptance that define the most precious of life's relationships. keywords; painting on canvas, surrealist painting, animal vs human, americana, nature, man, man vs nature, surrealism, giant animal...

Pink Pattern Coffee, Oil Painting
By Rachel Srinivasan
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
Inspired by a set of Portuguese towels, artist Rachel Srinivasan composed this still life with two of her cafetieres. Reflecting the peach-colored pattern of the towels on the surfaces of the coffee pots, Rachel provides a cheerful balance to the grays and blues of the cool metal. The soft draping fabric, in turn, offsets these solid devices.

About the Artist
For Rachel Srinivasan, an idea is worth putting on a canvas only if it still feels exciting after a few days. Rachel enjoys mulling the idea over in her mind for some time before creating an artwork. She hopes viewers will engage with her work and wonder about the subject matter, shapes and colors. "My current work is all about creating a connection between the person on the canvas with the viewer," she explains. She prefers large paintings and sometimes even makes her own canvases.
