Rene Boivin 1935 Art Deco Geometric Ring in Sterling Silver 27.66 Cts Aquamarine
By René Boivin
Located in Miami, FL
Art deco ring designed by Rene Boivin. Exceptional piece of jewelry from the French art deco period, created in Paris by the iconic jewelry house of Rene Boivin, back in the 1935. This bold geometric cocktail ring has been crafted in solid sterling silver with strong "tank machine age" sharp patterns. This kind of jewelry pieces in silver was produced by the maison of Boivin as an alternative option to the gold pieces. Models with different shapes has been produced. (see figures). Gemstones: Mounted in the center, with one octagonal faceted cut (25 x 17 x 9.5 mm) of a translucent natural blue aquamarine of 27.66 carats from Brazil. Weight: 23.75 Grams, (15.22 Dwt). Size: 7.5 Sizeable. Measurements: 29 mm by 26 mm (1.14 x 1.02 Inches) and raise 8 mm over the finger. René Boivin, born in 1864, was a French goldsmith, founded his company in 1890 in Paris. When he married Jeanne Poiret, sister of the famous couturier Paul Poiret, he gained entrée to the high fashion world. His forward-thinking designs rejected the era’s delicate Art Nouveau proportions in favor of chunky jewels inspired by the Middle East and Asia. When Rene died young in 1917, his wife Jeanne took over the direction of the house of Boivin, a daring act for a woman of the time. She hired mostly female designers, most famously Suzanne Belperron, who conceived many of the company’s iconic creations. This was jewelry for a different kind of woman—strong and modern, with a mind of her own. Boivin pieces marked high fashion rather than high status (although they telegraphed that, too, to those in the know). They were sensual and generous, with texture and dimension. Citrine, aquamarine, topaz and lapis were the colors of a palette that gave life to wearable gold sculpture. Most Boivin jewels were commissioned one-of-a-kind pieces, and were almost never signed. Jeanne considered them distinctive enough to be recognized on sight. In April 1991 the company became part of the Asprey...
