A fine antique French porcelain, silver and glass inkwell, an addition to our diverse continental silverware collection. This fine antique French porcelain, silver and glass inkwell has been modelled in the form of a seated oriental figure holding a frog. The spotted frog has a hinged hallmarked silver gilt cover surmounted with a lily pad and flower design. The cover has a scrolling thumb piece to the anterior surface of the rim, which pivots to reveal the removable glass ink pot. The porcelain figure has detailed red painted designs to his coat with a large blue and white draped tasseled hood, which could be used as a receptacle for stamps. The figure is seated on a shaped mirrored plateau with a hallmarked French silver gilt decorated border and base. The base is supported by four bun feet. Dimensions: Length of base 21cm/8.25".
