This large centerpiece or epergne was made by the well known Wilcox Silver Plate Company of the United States in approximately 1900 and done in a Victorian style. The base is composed of silver plate and features three figural children holding a rope and playing a period circle game. The middle of the centerpiece is composed of a bowl with three partitions that is decorated with engraved stylized flowers. This is a gorgeous antique Victorian silver plated punch bowl bearing the makers mark of the renowned silversmiths W.Briggs & Co of Sheffield, England, Circa 1880 in date. This exquisite punch bowl has beautiful and incredibly detailed scroll-cast rim with embossed half fluted decoration and raised on a pedestal foot. This is truly a special item and it will attract the maximum amount of attention, the quality and craftsmanship are undeniable. Condition: In excellent condition. As an antique item, the bowl shows signs of use commensurate with age, these minor condition issues are mentioned for accuracy and, as seen in the accompanying photographs, it displays beautifully. He was the son of William Briggs; his mother was Sarah Marriott Briggs. In 1871, aged 25, he was enumerated in the Census as an ‘electro-plate manufacturer’, living with his parents at Brocco Bank. An establishment date of 1845 appeared in a trade advertisement, which ties in with Briggs’s apparent birth date. In 1873, William Briggs & Co registered a silver mark from Andrew Street, Wicker. This is a superb antique English neoclassical silver plated tray by the renowned English silversmith, James Deakin, circa 1870 in date. This rectangular tray features a deep set, decorative gadrooned border with elegant handles decorated with superb foliate and floral chased and engraved decoration of ribbons and garlands. The quality and craftsmanship throughout the piece are truly second to none. Condition: In excellent condition with no dings, dents or signs of repair. Please see photos for confirmation. Before 1886 he was joined in partnership by his three sons, William Pitchford, John and Albert and the style of the firm was changed to James Deakin & Sons. In 1888 they opened London offices and showrooms at 48 Holborn Viaduct. Other branches were opened at Glasgow and Belfast. In 1897 the firm was converted to James Deakin & Sons Ltd. In 1935, James Deakin & Sons Ltd was part of a short-lived merger "Silver & Steelcrafts Ltd" that included Fenton Bros and J.H. Potter & Sons. The combine collapsed within three years. In 1939 was created Deakins (Silversmiths) Ltd, active at 6 Earl Street and, from 1943 at Sidney Works, Matilda Street. They were liquidated in 1967. In 1961 the brand was part of the "MONOGRAM" CUTLERY GROUP belonging to I.S.
