The silver content of the case has not been tested, but is believed to be Continental or .800 or just under .925 sterling, The front of the clock is ornately enameled with raised bright red flowers on each corner with contrasting black and red geometric panels with green accents, which are duplicated on the sides. The hinged back opens to gain access to the winding mechanism and the high grade Swiss movement has been professionally serviced and works well. ART DECO FIGURAL MANTEL CLOCK Anton Grath (Austrian, b. 1881) patinated and burnished bronze over marble signed "Anton Grath" and foundry marking monogrammed "HW" within an "H" to right side of base Circa 1925 Item # 203AXG01W A powerful figural clock of a partially nude male and female raising offerings of a laurel wreath and an empty vessel, they face one another before the bold architectural display of the clock flanked by coned finials. They are loosely symmetrical in garb, the burnished bronze capes flowing gently around and before them. The circular face of the clock rests on a pair of sleeping lions over a textured bronze rectangular plinth with a burnished bronze bas-relief of a young woman lying in the grasses of a setting sun raised on a variated marble base. This model was acquired formerly at the Sotheby's, New York sale on April 14th 2008, [Sale N08427, lot 155, achieved $ 5,000 USD] and the patina was enhanced at some point in the last fourteen years to include the parcel-burnished highlights in the figures. The right side of the base includes the signature and a monogrammed foundry mark (HW within an H). A very fine period example. Artist Listings & Bibliography: *E. This French Art Deco marble mantle clock set, dating to circa 1920, is a fine example of period craftsmanship and design. The set includes the central mantle clock flanked by two matching garniture urns, all executed in richly veined multicolor marble with tones of sienna, green, black, and ochre. The clock’s oval form is accented by gilt bronze detailing with geometric Art Deco motifs, perfectly complementing the clean lines and symmetry characteristic of the era. The central clock face features traditional Arabic numerals and elegant hands, set within a finely worked circular dial. Supported on bronze ball feet, the clock exudes balance and refinement. The accompanying garnitures, with their urn-like shapes and stepped bases, further enhance the architectural quality of the ensemble.
