Stephen John Skerce was a painter from Monterey, California. He received his formal art training from the Chicago Art Institute, Salinas Art School and the Académie Julian in Paris, France. He is known for his landscapes, seascapes and harbor scenes. He was an artist with both the Valley Art Gallery in Salinas and Venture Gallery in Monterey. Skerce also served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Waves crashing into a Big Sure Cove and Seagulls gliding on the wind currents. Well known for many years on the Monterey coast for his seascapes and beach scenes. Signed "Skerce" in the lower right corner. Signed "Stephen Reno Skerce" on verso, with the artists Mountain View Studio stamp on frame. Presented in a wood frame with a linen liner.
