Using rubber, glass and clay she creates columns with undulating silhouettes. The “Lantern Columns” are a group of 7 towers, ranging from 4 feet to 7 feet tall. They have been shown in various configurations in multiple US States as well as the Fukuoka City Museum in Kyushu, Japan. Hand blown glass rings of glowing blues and greens are stacked organically on seven stems in this charming outdoor sculpture by Susan Rankin. The stems that wave gently in the breeze are fixed to a steel plate. Base plate dimensions for "7 Columns" is 24 x 48 inches. "Using numerous columns to define a space, I incorporate light through the multiple transparent or opaque glass elements. Drawing on natural and abstracted forms I have created a series of work, which is harmonious and compelling through the seasons." Susan has won numerous awards and acknowledges the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts and The Ontario Arts Council.
