Thorgrimur Einarsson transitioned from music composition to painting after discovering the medium while studying at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. The self-taught artist creates oil paintings on linen canvas, focusing on landscapes—particularly those of his native Iceland—alongside still life and figurative subjects. Einarsson employs the Alla Prima technique, completing most works within one to two days to maintain freshness and spontaneity. His methodical process begins with a unifying wash, followed by careful attention to drawing accuracy, transparent darks, and progressive layering of mid-tones and highlights. Throughout, he consciously works to create variation in color, values, edges, and texture. His paintings often retain a purposefully sketchy quality that maintains the initial energy of the composition. Einarsson is represented by select galleries across the United States including Abend Gallery.to
