ARTIST STATEMENT My paintings operate in a fictitious world that utilizes the mythologies and realities of the modern American West. Because of its unique history, the Western United States is more than just a location; it is a label, a persona and most importantly a cultural identity. The word "Western" is a category; it is used to describe films, literature, music, art, and fashion. In my work I use the cowboy and cowgirl and other stereotypical Western themes coupled with pop cultural depictions of the region to reflect my own interpretations of the contemporary West. I am interested in historian Michael Johnson...

Holiday End - Color Pencil Drawing, Surreal Christmas Scene, Framed

By John Hrehov

Located in Chicago, IL

The artist is a master at storytelling. He sets the stage for the viewer to bring the events to a particular scene. Here, the artist presents us with a curious scene. The Holidays are over and the thought of getting rid of the tree is always a chore. Hrehov has chosen to show how to quickly eliminate the tree (and everything around it!). His sense of humor comes out in this small, highly detailed drawing that is matted and framed measuring 14.5 x 16 inches. Mental Structures- 21st Century Contemporary Still-life Painting

By Daniela Astone

Located in Nuenen, Noord Brabant

Italian artist Daniela Astone lives and works in Florence. She enjoys working with live models and paints her works from observation, the classical approach she learned at the Academy in Florence and which she now teaches to her students. Daniela Astone graduated in 2004. She had her first solo exhibition shortly afterwards in the United States. Since then, the international attention of the Italian artist has only grown. The classical structure and narrative paintings show a technique that is special. Her style is virtuoso and her subjects are narrative. The keys are loose and subtle. Standing in front of a painting means watching...
