Chair designed by Franco Albini in 1953. Relaunched in 2013. Manufactured by Cassina in Italy. The small armchair, dubbed Luisa, is the fruit of a fifteen-year process of exploration, focused on creating an archetype of the basic elements of a chair, and its potential uses within the home. A idea-based design, where Franco Albini expressed the concept of “substance in form”, increasing the volume of the wooden parts where they join with others. Following various enhancements, the definitive version of the chair was awarded the prestigious Compasso D’Oro prize by the Italian Industrial Design Association (Associazione per il Disegno Industriale/ADI). The frame represents a synthesis where the seat and the back are two geometric planes suspended on an understated wood structure, the sides reminiscent of trestles. Pair of organic wood and fabrics chairs

Particular and elegant chair with a solid and functional structure; the most interesting part of the chair is the elaborate and imaginative backrest with a harmonious and refined design; in the middle, there is precious woodwork, carved with skill and ability by a master cabinetmaker; the front legs have been meticulously turned to give them a light and proportionate shape, while the rear ones have a slightly curved square section; the seat top is removable and a wooden pin on the front crossbar allows the top itself to fit perfectly into its natural housing. The seat upholstery was replaced in ancient times and is in good condition (a bit of wear on the front, see photo) so we did not consider doing any restoration on the whole chair because its authentic look and slight imperfections make it really seductive and fascinating and attest its antiquity.
