Walter Lampl was an ambitious New York City jeweler whose rags-to-riches story marked the beginnings of a successful career. At the age of 26, he opened a wholesale jewelry business in 1921, and eventually commissioned several female designers whose work he oversaw and and approved from page to product. His quality jewelry included colorful gemstone designs, unique charms, and popular pins. Multiple designs originated as gifts for his beloved wife Sylvia (whom he called "Toots"), later evolving into designs available to the rest of his clientele. His enthusiasm, charismatic personality, and humorous motto "Creators of the Unusual, As Usual" made him a much beloved man whose legacy extended far beyond the end of his life. Authentic vintage Walter Lampl pieces are still fashionable today and have become quite collectible!
An unusual and stunning bracelet from the Art Deco (ca1930s) era by designer Walter Lampl! This substantial piece features an array of gorgeous jade links displayed in a stylish 14kt yellow gold setting. The natural jade stones display beautiful shades of dark and light green, marbled with subtle milky white inclusions. Each link is intricately hand-carved, bringing a variety of lovely floral motifs to life. The largest centermost link boasts a delicate butterfly, whose pointed wings are surrounded by a wreath of vines and flowers. Included throughout the remainder of the design are 8 small "coin" links, and two larger carved jade rings, the latter of which are set with a smooth onyx ring at the center. The black onyx contrasts perfectly with the soft green jade hues, adding further dimension to the elaborate design. Each circular jade link is held within a simple gold bezel, and gold connectors rest in between, giving the bracelet a flexible construction. Six gold prongs hold the central plaque in place, fastening it securely to the gold frame on the back. At the back is a push clasp incorporated seamlessly into the design, fastening at an elongated jade plaque in the back. A gold safety chain provides additional security when worn. Stamped on the tongue of the clasp is a "WL" maker's mark and a "14K" gold purity mark. When worn, the dramatic bracelet makes an outstanding statement piece!
The bracelet measures 7" long, and would fit nicely on an average sized wrist. The large central jade plaque is 1 3/4" tall, 1" wide, and 1/4" thick. The large jade rings...
